I just had a very helpful agent work with me to get a LHR-PER-MEL U seat released for next year. I was going to tag on a BA leg DUB-LHR to reduce the APD and also I've never been to Ireland so could spend a couple of days there. The agent told me that that would be an extra 20k points in J.

My understanding has always been if it remains within the mileage band you get the extra flight for free. I've done this numerous times with AA / QF. It this a codeshare thing? I was quite surprised.

There's one table for QF / JQ / FJ / AA award redemptions, and another table for the other oneworld partners.

The extra 20k makes sense.
