Hey everyone,

Off to ZQN this weekend for the snow, and have some new ski boots to claim, and was planning on checking them in, I'm aware they need to be sighted pre-check in at the Customs and Border Protection counter on arrivals etc etc.

Two questions....
1) does anyone know what time the Customs and Border Protection counter opens/closes?
2) do you think you could get this done the night before, assuming the counter is still open? (We are staying at the Rydges next door and would be handy to save time and get done the night before).

Any feedback/experience/advice would be warmly welcomed.

Cheers

I can't help you directly with SYD, but a few months ago in PER I needed to get some items sighted prior to checking in. It was after 5pm, and the desk was no longer manned. I had actually called earlier to find out what to do. I was told there is a bell you ring and someone will come around. I suspect if the desk is not manned, something similar would be in operation in SYD.

Having said that, a think a quick phone call would be the way to go. It wasn't painful at all.

I haven't done it the night before but have done it in the am just before my flight...there was a bit of a Q so allow time! IIRC, the office was at the arrivals level at Syd at the base of the escalators between checkin counters G and H....no harm turning up the evening before....all they do is stamp your receipt 'sighted" or words to that effect after they inspect your goods.

You can now do the application on line before check-in - very easy and was in/out of TRS @ SYD in under 2 mins - just have the pre approval paperwork/app on your phone (different line for processing).

Thanks for that info! Would you call Syd airport or customs?

I called customs from memory. I think I found an airport specific number somewhere.

Also, keep in mind that you will still need to queue air-side at the TRS counter again. The first bit is just a stamp to say items have been sighted.

Yeah aware about having to still go through TRS post-security, but with the QR code now found that to be a fairly quick + easy process.
Thanks for the feedback and help
