I was ready to book Vanuatu for 30K points from BNE return but found no code share agreement in place.

My question is where can I go overseas except NZ from BNE for 30K - 40K points?

You could always go from SYD and use a red e-deal (dirt cheap at the moment) to get from BNE to SYD - and just think of the 2000 points you will earn on the BNE-SYD-BNE flights!

I have heaps of Qantas points already and just want to take the family on a short getaway overseas. Sydney doesn't do it for me. Where is a nice place to go overseas (besides NZ) for 30K-40K each???

I think thadocta meant route the trip VIA sydney to catch a couple of QF codeshare flights.

Can't really get much further than NZ for 30-40k.... for50k you can do singapore, japan, bangkok region.

Gotcha on route via Sydney. Where can I go via Sydney using codeshare for 30K-40K each? Is there no islands off Oz for 40K or less?

Thanks on S.E. Asia area for 50K.

Jim,

Mate, Vanuatu is beautiful. I am a scuba diver, and if you like the water full stop, you will have a wail of a time there. I stayed with Nuku and Lisa at the Deco Stop in Santo, which is a dive lodge and is great. The people are lovely and it is so peaceful. I had a great time last time.

Air Vanuatu is somewhat reminiscent of an Indiana Jones plane for me :)

Don't any of the others (e.g. AirPacific / Polynesian) do flights to Port Vila ? I'm sure that if they do, you could redeem points on them.

Iceman, I dive too and thought Vanuatu would be great. I wanted to book the family for 30K each on the non-stop flight from BNE to Port Villa (VLI). The problem is Qantas says they have no FF points agreement with Air Vanuatu so FF points can't be used.

Rossmurdoch, Will look at Norfolk or Lord Howe what's the difference between them?

My preference is Lord Howe - world heritage listed amazing landscape and wildlife, it is quite small and a very slow pace - also part of NSW. Norfolk is larger and quite intersting convict and Bounty mutineer history also very laid back

Jim,
I took the whole family (2 adults and two kids) to Fiji for 130,000 points from MEL. I did the Sheraton stay on points and the $1200 odd dollars in food and kids things I paid in Starwood points as well.
1 week in Fiji for $200 - PRICELESS :D

redrat, that sounds nice and worth thinking about. I really wanted to take the family to one of the islands just to the norteast of us. Since Qantas tells me no FF agreements with codeshare partners who fly to there I may just go to the reef. What do other members think is the best 30K-40K getaway?

Jim,

How about coming over to WA, there's thousands of km's of coastline and heaps of nice places to visit here, plus its a 5-hour journey from Queensland.....at least you'll feel like you're in another country!

You'll easily get to Perth for 30,000 points. I am thinking of doing the reverse, heading over to Queensland for my holiday!

I can get to Singapore from Perth for only 30,000 too, but there's not much to do there unless you like shopping! Bali -- err, not just now thanks.

OK, you don't get any duty free, but that's a rip off at $400 per person anyway and you're not saving that much unless you're a drinker or smoker!

PS - I'm not an employee of the WA Tourism Board either, just trying to help!
:)

WA, well maybe, I haven't been there for 20 years. I really like islands though. Besides Whitsundays does Qantas service any of the 1000's of small Australian islands to the north?

Have you thought of downloading the Qantas itinary manager called QANTIM? (get it free from the Qantas website - go to the sitemap, and find it from there)
With this program, you can look up all Qantas flights; destinations; Qantas Club locations, etc. etc.
It won't tell you how many points you'll need for each flight... but you get that info from the Qantas website anyway.

regards,

According to the Federal Government, the thousands of small islands to the north are not part of Australia anymore.

New Qaledonia

Hi

There are Qantas flights to Noumea from Brisbane. I am keen to go there in the future because I study French.

New Caledonia, I am sure, is an interesting melting pot of Melanesian and French culture. I have the Lonely Planet Guide and if you like outdoor things there is lots to do.

Each April, at a place called Dumbea there is the Great Omellette festival where (you guessed it) a giant omellete is made. The Isle of Pines is supposed to be nice also.

If you decide to go there do a quick course in French at the Alliance Francaise of Brisbane. French people warm better to foreigners if you make the effort to speak a few words of french.

cheers Peter
