Overnight in Tokyo and finding flights to an entire country?

Apologies if these questions have been asked before, it's hard to believe it hasn't but my searches were fruitless ...

We might be going to Germany in July, paying our own actual money which means premium economy. We also no longer have any status.

First question is ... are there any search sites where you can say you are happy to go to any airport in a country? We need to go to places kinda at either end of the country so it wouldn't matter than much which airport we use (or at least a wide choice might work well).

Second question relates to what's involved in getting overnight accommodation in Tokyo? There's a potential JAL ticket (remembering we have no status and their premium economy fare includes J lounge access) which gets into one Tokyo airport at a fairly reasonable 5pm and leaves the other airport at a not-that-horrible 9:30am and I was wondering about staying overnight in Tokyo, is public transport easy for noobs &/or are taxis ridiculously expensive (and difficult with no Japanese), stuff like that.

Oh bonus question; looks like JAL has some fares including a LHR to FRA hop on BA in Y. Now that being a short flight I wonder if maybe those BA aircraft only have J & Y seating ... does anyone know if a JAL fare bought requesting premium economy but including a BA leg on Y would allow J lounge access prior to that BA Y leg? And given that most airlines require a J ticket to get into a J lounge, are there limitations to which OneWorld lounges you have access to?

Google flights should allow you to search Australia to Germany and show prices on a map.

I “think’ BA will be all Y with an empty middle seat if you paid for J.

Avoid taxis for long journeys. For short trips have your destination written in Japanese.

Public transport is ok with preplanning. I would suggest changing airports upon arrival, not the morning of the flight.

Know where each airport is located. Haneda is close to Tokyo, Narita is at least a 40 minute train trip from Tokyo station.

It will also let you add multiple origin/departure points

Haneda airport is a better choice for public transport to Tokyo than Narita, if you have an option in connecting airports. As above, don't take a taxi.

Regarding lounge access, at London it appears to apply based on purchased ticket class, and premium includes access to the Galleries lounge at LHR. But it would depend on what is on the ticket. If your ticket shows Premium economy for the BA leg (unlikely since they don't have a premium service) you would have access. If it says full Y you would also have access, which is where it may work. But if it says a lower economy class you wouldn't get access. You wouldn't have access to any other oneworld lounges at LHR.

It's pretty easy on the train, although it does require 2 transfers at least. You can also take a Limousine Bus (that's what they call them in Japan) to T-CAT then from T-CAT to Narita.

Unfortunately the latest train to Narita from Tokyo is around ~8:20pm for both the NEX and Skyliner, meaning you can't really spend much time in the city before heading to a Narita Airport hotel.

Alternatively you can stay overnight in Tokyo and take an early 5~6am train to Narita the next morning.

If you are flying in to HND and our NRT I would just get the Limousine bus directly to NRT. You really don’t have that much time to do anything in Tokyo so staying near NRT is much better for a
0930 flight. You can get into Narita town easily from all the hotels at NRT for a restaurant.

If it's any help, we stayed at the Hotel Villa Fontaine Grand at Haneda Airport after a surprise weather induced cancellation of our bus to the snow in late January. It was fabulous! It is connected directly to the terminal by indoor walkway, and took only about 5-8 mins to walk there with airport trolleys full of ski gear. You can take the trolleys into the room for a quick getaway the next morning. The hotel has an amazing roof top onsen that is significantly discounted for hotel guests, and is a great way to relax. There is a 7-11/Lawson/Family Mart just at the hotel door where you can buy great cheap snacks. Room was surprisingly large for Japan.

This web site is very helpful for Japan travel planning and this page in particular talks about how to transfer between the airports. If you are departing from Haneda for your onwards flight, it's very easy to get into Tokyo itself for a spot of sightseeing. Tokyo at night is neon magic. Plus shops are open late....
