Overnight at Singapore airport

I am following up on an earlier question.

Next Monday, my partner and I are booked on QF 35 from Melbourne to Singapore. Flight is due Terminal 1 at 1800.

Then on Tuesday we are booked on LH 9765 to Frankfurt (operated as SQ 326) from Terminal 3 at 1055.

The sectors are part of a round-the-world ticket.

We are booked to stay Monday night at the Crowne Plaza at Singapore Airport.

We want to collect our luggage at Singapore and take it with us to the hotel.

My partner is concerned about the possibility of the luggage being checked through to Frankfurt. Hence my question here.

Should we expect the two sectors to be treated as separate bookings? In other words, would we get a QF boarding pass in Melbourne with luggage booked to Singapore?

Then in Singapore we would need to check in again on Tuesday morning?

We are experienced travellers but this is a new scenario for us so any suggestions or tips would be most appreciated.

Yes, it’s typically only an issue to short-check luggage when the transit/layover is smaller. I wouldn’t expect any arguments or even questioning over short checking bags on a 16 hour layover. The airlines don’t like having to be responsible for bags sitting in an airport somewhere for so long.

Maybe have a few essentials handy in your carry on, just for a worst case scenario, but unlikely to be needed.

Cheers,
Matt.

We had this in reverse in late Novemeber last year when I did not want to receive my luggage after the first leg (there was a lot of it, and heavy), but was given no choice. We travelled CBR-MEL on QF arriving about 1700 and then left the next morning on EK/QF code share to Dubai with check in at 0300 ish for a 0600 ish departure. I really did not want to have the luggage, but had to deal with it.

Maybe it was because it was still dom-int or maybe because it was overnight, but anyway, this experience suggests you probably won't have an issue getting your luggage, and maybe won't even be given a choice about it.
