This video shows a huge Russian transport plane taking off from Canberra International Airport in Australia. It barely makes the takeoff, using every inch of runway available.

Not one to forget! I like it because it's close to home. The road to Queanbeyan runs just past the boundary fence there and if anybody was passing, they may not have yet recovered from the shock and the tyre marks on their roof...

Looking at the video again (and again) there actually is a car passing by on the road. Not quite at the undercarriage-on-the-roof height, but it must have looked fairly impressive.

If that's the right word.

The video was taken some years ago - the runway was extended and strengthened in 2006, and now goes right up to the boundary fence, much like the northern end of the main runway at SYD, complete with blast deflector.

Damn YouTube! Watch the video and they have a series of compelling "videos like this one" that eat up a chunk of fascinating time.
