Hi all, long time lurker first time questioner.

Hoping someone can help me. I have a confirmed Q class seat on QF94 (LAX - MEL) on 11 Feb and cannot select a seat - they're all full.

I have a connecting flight to Syd after the flight and was hoping to be bumped so I could maybe get on a direct Syd flight.

I realise what will probably happen is FF's with status will be points upgraded and they'll find room for me on the flight - however if anyone has any tips for maximising my chances of being bumped I would be very grateful!

Thanks in advance.

You could ring Qantas and ask them. It has worked for me once and I was offer a direct flight on an A380. :)

Why didn't you just book a direct flight in the first place?

It could be because the direct flight was more expensive on the day of booking.

I've had similar situation once before. I was booked on a flight to MEL via SYD and on arrival, I was bumped to a flight directly to MEL. I was also informed that due to my status, QF tried to ring me on my mobile to offer me a direct flight instead of via SYD, but were unable to get in touch ('cause my mobile was switched off while overseas).

So calling QF and asking could work.

Thanks so much everyone!
It was indeed much cheaper and only booked a few days before by phone so I took what they gave me.

I took your advice and rang, they said the flight wasn't quite overbooked just 'busy' but when I arrived at the airport they put me on an A380 direct to Syd in a bulkhead seat. Not sure if it was ringing, or just arriving at the airport very late and not checking in online but it worked!
