Okay, Mrs Blinky and I are off on our second, and more comprehensive European tour. I hope I can do justice to some of the fantastic travel logs which first attracted me to this forum.

In summary, we are heading off tomorrow from Melbourne, J class with Etihad, courtesy of 500,000 FF points. London for a week, with a side trip to Dublin next Saturday, the day before St Pat's Day. Paris for three days (we've been there before, as with London, but have to go again) and then Rome. A Mediterranean cruise to Greece, Turkey and back to Italy follows, and then an Insight Tour through Italy. Finishing off with another Insight Tour through Switzerland and return via Frankfurt.

Our 30 something son is aghast that we are not catching trains and staying at backpackers on our trip, and it's something we would have done.............30 years ago. So no apologies about organised tours. We have chosen those with plenty of free time where we can check out the pubs and cafes frequented by locals.

Hope the trip report works. I'll be relying (naturally) on free wifi.

Finally, thank you to all you guys who have given me some great information about getting the most out of flying.

Cheers.

Sounds like a great trip, I hope you have a fabulous time!

Does sound great, your paying a premium with all those tours, but there is a time i guess to splash out a bit...

Hope all goes well and looking forward to some pictures and updates...

Sounds like a FANTASTIC trip! Quite similar to what I'm doing in June/July. Take care, enjoy and no stress about the wifi, you'll have no problems I'm sure.
P.S I think your son is probably jealous!

Thanks. Perhaps he is jealous, but a couple of years ago he did the big backpack tour, including watching Cadel Evans, who he knows, cross the line in the Champs. And this is a lad who is normally unaccustomed to crossing Melbourne by public transport, so he done well. ;)
