Osaka to Melbourne flights March 2026.

Getting off a Cruise in Osaka in March next year and need to get back to Melbourne. China Eastern is the cheapest at the moment but there are alot more options out of Tokyo Narita. Is it worth flying from Osaka to Nartita for the extra options? Has anyone flown China Eastern recently and how were they? Thanks in advance.

What is it about flying out of Osaka (KIX) that does not give you the options that you're getting from flying out of Narita?

There are plenty of options to Australia from KIX when I do a search on a random date in March 2026. None are direct to Melbourne (but then neither is KIX-NRT-MEL).

Qantas has direct flights from NRT-MEL but they are not as cheap as some other carriers and we would also need to factor in the internal flight.

If you are after cheap fares, then why not look at Scoot, Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar, Cebu Pacific or Vietjet? They are all below $700 one way ex KIX with one stop. Duration varies with each one as they all go back through their home base country. Jetstar is the shortest duration. China Airlines is more expensive at $800+.

China Airlines isn't a LCC, which will be why it's more exxy compared to the rest of that lot (it's also not a CCP airline - just clarifying that due to the original Q about China Eastern).

Yep, agree. China Eastern is even more expensive at $900+.

The main thing here is what class of travel you're looking at, what sort of budget constraints you're working with and any time constraints.

LIke how many stops are you ok with, where are you not ok stopping at, is it for one person or 4 etc.

Also any airline that flies Tokyo > Melbourne (well just 2, JAL and Qantas) both would sell you Osaka > Melbourne on one ticket and it'd be roughly the same price usually.

OP mentions that China Eastern has the cheapest fare, so maybe somewhat price-conscious.

Depending on the airline, you might be able to get a flight from Osaka to Tokyo to connect to a long haul out of Japan for around the same as flying from Tokyo. However, the Osaka - Tokyo flight might go from Itami (ITM) instead of Kansai (KIX).
All international flights from Osaka are from Kansai, flights from Tokyo could be either Haneda or Narita. People have gotten caught out at the wrong airport.
By March, the Qantas Tokyo-Melbourne flights could have shifted to Haneda.
There are a number of connection options from KIX to MEL, many of them are the same as those available from either Tokyo airport.
