Opt out of CSM greeting??

No, no I don't think I will join you for dinner. I thought I'd step outside, have a cigarette and enjoy the scenery.
 
I had the CSM greeting in Y on QF925 CNS-SYD a few days ago - the CSM was lovely, and offered me a paper, but the only paper she had was the Cairns Post! I declined. She was lovely enough to have a chat. I fed back to QF that I appreciated this - I want to encourage QF staff to keep on doing this!

Flew SYD-CNS on Sunday got the greeting as well, my 4 year old was non plussed, but my wife and other 4 year old in the row behind us were very impressed.

I believe her exact words to me from between the seats was "is that because you are a wanker?"

I do relate with the western suburbs of Melbourne which would permit words such as above to come from a 4 year olds mouth, however in this case it was definitely the good wife.

Incidentally a lot of qf staff travelers on the flight. we were in 26/27 behind the bulkhead on the 767, staff had 26/27/28/29 centre section. It must be a good destination to use staff travel for.
 
I had two WP greetings and attentive CSMs this week - both domestic, which was quite surprising! Also, I had travelled BNE-MEL-BNE-MEL-BNE this week (all on QF except for one DJ MEL-BNE), and these took place on the last two flights (as I was getting more tired), so the gestures were appreciated even more than usual:

26/7 BNE-MEL (4D - on a new BSI 738 :D). On boarding with a garment bag, the CSM took a passing glance at my BP and immediately offered to hang the bag up for me, after which he looked at the BP properly, and responded with "Welcome back Mr xx". After take-off, he came to my seat and again greeted me by name, and offered a choice of newspapers. I was again addressed by name during the meal service, and although he returned jackets prior to landing, he kept my bag in the cupboard, and was holding it as he stood by the exit door, waiting for my departure. His farewell included my name again - couldn't have been more impressed! :D

28/7 MEL-BNE (4C - last minute sub 738 -> 734...). I got the impression that the CSM was the grumpy type from his pre-take-off announcements, though after take-off he came to my seat, greated me by name, and offered a newspaper. He also came to my seat later in the flight to again see if there was anything that he could get for me - not the grumpy type at all it would seem! :D

Crew on my other QF BNE-MEL flight were also fantastic, even in the absence of a CSM greeting.

Forget the 'opt out' feature - perhaps they should make an 'opt in' feature... I could really get used to this!! Their attempted restoration of staff culture really seems to have achieved wonders (from what I've seen anyway) - keep it coming! :D

I like this. Very nice! Not an expensive thing to do but very thoughtful touches.
 
I think I had 3 greetings on QF93 on Friday from the CSM! But also from half the FA's on the plane as a friend who is a QF FA had given them advance warning we were on board!

All QF flights. Was hoping to get a greeting from a CSM somewhere along the line just to see whether I wanted to keep getting it or not! I had to ask for the in-bound priority card for BKK and was given an immigration form again. Finally got to see the CSM and he said "oh, yeah, forgot I was supposed to hand them out".

Not holding my breath either for next month.....
 
A few thoughts from recent QF93/94 in Y+.
To LAX the CSM was doing the greeting with an iPad instead of the paper manifest (must be new?). No orange express pass for immigration was given (do they do so for those flying F?).

To MEL the CSM was doing the greeting without an iPad (names must have been written down somewhere, I didn't take too much notice) and I got the "if there's anything you need please don't hesistate to ask [insert 2 FAs in Y+ names]" - don't remember getting that to LAX. Also got an inbound express pass which wasn't used given that the Smartgate line is quite short.

As an aside, the guy next to me (I was in 39F, late upgrade) had a points upgrade to J which was then later reversed - but his wife was in J. They tended to look after him (J PJs immediately after take-off, amenity kit - dark maroon colour, from F perhaps?). What was also interesting was that the FA prior to serving meals asked both of us for both meals what our choice would be so that we would be able to have the one we wanted. I'm pretty sure he wasn't WP because he didn't get a greeting or inbound express pass and it's probably unlikely that they would have to bump down a WP on a points upgrade due to space.
 
Just wondering, CSM's only come to you if you're platinum yeah? Are Gold's treated any differently? Maybe Express Card or a drink?

Only Platinums for Greeting and Express Cards (Gold don't get any special acknowledgement, mind you, i've had around a 50% hit rate of greetings from CSM/CSD/CSS's on QF, and aboug a 90% hit rate of being offered an express card).

Seems they've improved their greetings since I was WP; I had a greeting maybe 4 times and during those 3 years, never had an amenities kit, PJs, drinks or headphone offering. Express lane cards were offered only on inbound to SYD - nothing for BKK and never an outbound Express card except for an ADL-SYD-NRT flight that was really tight on the connections.

Always flew Y and I was flying almost every 3 weeks out of AU internationally; domestic - I did wonder if they actually knew what a Platinum FF was . . . . :D

When the thread first started, Red Roo PM'd me to say that he/she put something on my profile saying I don't like the greeting or something to that effect. It has worked very well- don't get an in seat greeting or handshake or anything extra anymore. Bliss!
 
Hello all, I thought I would just let you know why I find Qantas so heartbreaking as a WP.

I am just in the lounge on my final leg of a four day round trip to the USA.

On Monday I flew SYD-DFW and it was everything I love about Qantas.
New fit out, Y seat was clean and everything working.
greeted by name boarding the flight, received a personal CSM greeting and the offer of headphones from up the front which weren't needed as I was rocking the Bose quiet comforts.
When meal service began, I was sought out first in the cabin to make sure I received what I wanted then they brought my meal and began regular cabin service.
I was very impressed!


Then when you think it's all turned a corner in regards to service, the flight home was appalling.
no CSM greeting, which I don't mind.
We were at the gate waiting for passengers that had failed to board and the front door was open.
i was texting on my phone when an officious male FA told me to switch off my phone even though there had been no announcement. He also didn't stop even though I tried to ask him why.
20 seconds later he came back and told me to switch it off again without stopping, very loudly and rudely.
So rather than cause a fuss I switched my phone off. Then 10 minutes later we off loaded the bags of the passenger that failed to board and the doors were shut, at which time the captain announced it was time to switch off electronic devices.
When the meal service came around the FA was still obviously in a bad mood as the food was handed out and I had no choice as there was only the cough fish dish left. On top of all that no express card.

I know this is all very superficial complaining, but I really get frustrated when qantas demonstrate they can get service so right and then don't. I also don't like being spoken down to as a passenger as I am really the last person to ever make a fuss.

Nothing for the two QF J.......both CX J a kneeling welcome & shake of the hand while seated......first CX Y nothing......second CX Y a shake and smiling welcome with an offer of everything other than change of seat up the front.
 
I think for those who dislike the Platinum Welcome, an end to the 'shame' would appear to be in place. Not having received a greeting of any sort on a domestic flight for more than six to nine months now, I thought QF had given up on the practice.

However, on a recent BNE-PER flight, I was sitting in 23B when the Y CSM came up and gave the greeting spiel, bottle of water and newspaper to the pax sitting in 23A. Looking forward to my bottle of water and newspaper (as a WP), I was surprised when she wandered away and then talked to someone in row 25/26. I would have to assume these pax were CL or WP1.

It would therefore appear that the Platinum Welcome has now been 'enhanced' to exclude actual WP!

I had a strange flight SYD-HKG 2 weeks ago.

Upgraded to premium economy at check-in and had 3 different CSMs greet me on more than 1 occassion throughout the flight.

I have been wondering if that was just luck or whether I was singled out for "special" treatment.
