I love the food at this lounge:

Really nice prawn dish:

However outside of the restaurant I find the lounge to be large just for the sake of being large and completely lacking in any atmosphere, something that applies to many things in the Emirates.

The 1989 bordeax is drinking well right now! Steak is always superb, but slightly overcooked by australian definition of medium.

I've only transited at breakfast time, might have to make an effort to be there at dinner time. Mind you, last time I was there, people were drinking champers with their scrambled eggs very early in the morning, not my thing, coffee only at that time of the day.

I notice a new season of Downton Abbey starts tomorrow night; those of you travelling through DXB soon may wish to have it on your iPads so as to refresh yourself with the correct way to interact with underlings ;)

Agree with this sentiment. Needed a shirt ironed and had to ask someone who simply replied with a "Sorry we don't offer that service" and then walked away. The showers also of a domestic J lounge quality. I just didn't think it was good enough as it did not meet my expectations. This is supposed to be the flagship lounge of the most opulent/extravagant airline in the world. Ironing should be offered (as it was in the EY lounge) and showers should be special (again as they were in the EY lounge at AUH).

Though with that said, on board I was not disappointed.

They have never been good in the lounge scene ....I remember showering in a portable 'space'.

I prefer the food in the QF F lounges over the EK F lounge at DXB.

I do too, to be honest.

However that's not to say I didn't enjoy what was on the menu on my visit, especially the Umm Ali - which I'll have to find in Australia to try again! Such an amazing dessert! So glad I tried something 'local'.

Been in the lounge twice both at breakfast time. The lounge is a bit barn like, but I really liked it and found the staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Food at breakfast was excellent and I just loved this chandelier (but then I love the colour red)

I prefer the food in the QF F lounges over the EK F lounge at DXB. It's boring.

The menu is much larger than the QF F Lounges and is anything but boring IMHO.
I think the QF Flounge is like a good bistro / cafe type style whereas the DXB F Lounge is more fine dining.
Each to their own :)

Hi All,

Just wanted to test that I'm reading things correctly regarding access to the F lounges in MEL and DXB. Next August a friend and I will be on QF9, him in F and me in J. I'll be silver, him bronze and both QP members. If I've read it right as an F passenger my friend has access to both F lounges and I can access as his guest given I'm on the same flight.

Is that right? Also interested in any other hints/comments about these two lounges, my only other F lounge experience is the one in SYD a couple of years ago, while my friend will be having his first taste of F.

Many thanks

Yes, your friend can guest you into the MEL and DXB F Lounges.
As he's travelling QF F he will have access to a pre-booked spa appt in MEL and can have a walk-up complimentary Spa appt in DXB (may not be time for this though as connection not long).
It's a very late flight as you are in J I'd get a good feed in the lounge and not bother on the aircraft on the first sector.

Great, good to have that confirmed. And as always thanks for the information Princess F :)

I've been in about 4 - 6 times over past 2 years and always amazed at how tranquil (read "empty") the lounge is. Travelled with my 7 y.o. daughter last time and she loved the desert bar!!

My favourite feature is how you can walk straight from the lounge to the gate/lifts to the aerobridge - nice design!

and pointless! I don't carry hand luggage, but I have a big bag with some very large extra zippered bits. When they did the bag search, I offered to undo the zips but he said not to bother and just dug around in the central compartment. I could have had anything in the bits he didn't bother with....

Agree. It must be one of the more ineffective and seemingly unprofessional bag checks anywhere. And a particular timewaster, when done at that point, and in the way it is done. Sometimes, there is only one security person to vet all the pax exiting the lounge. Even with more than one, it causes a bottleneck.

Just as well the benefits pre- and post-security outweigh the minor hiccup. :)
