Hi folks,

I might be starting a new job, which will involve a whole bunch of Y (or Y+ if I'm lucky) international travel, and I'm thinking it might be time for a change... With the new tie ups V Aus has in place, has anyone looked at the trade offs between which program to concentrate points/flights in/on?

I haven't been travelling much for a year, but before that was mainly doing QF. Travel will be mostly international to unknown destinations, and I'm going to try to specify Y+ for longer flights in my contract - if that comes off I'll be trying to keep my flights on V Aus and Air NZ metal for obvious reasons. Main things I'm chasing in an FF program are status benefits and long haul reward flights (aiming for J).

The fact that the good folks at V Oz comped me gold for an extra year when my travel slowed down, and have generally treated me well lately makes me feel quite well disposed towards them, but I do wish they'd just joined *A instead of the varied and painful to keep track of set of individual alliances! I also worry about their earn/burn ratios on the partner airlines.

Anyone have any thoughts? Am I better off just sticking with QF?

Cheers,

Danny

You can probably make it work, but if mainly flying in economy, steer clear of Air NZ Airpoints, as they are really only OK if you are either having very short flights in economy or flying in business class.

For the choice between SQ and VA, you need to consider where you want to redeem to in J long haul (eg for US much better to put to VA I think, Asia to SQ, Europe - either really)

That's a good point - most likely destinations for redemptions are both US and Europe, probably not asia, so that probably favours V Aus... Wish they'd buy some more 777s and hit more destinations out of BNE though!
