With the imminent arrival of NBN* in my area and my ISP not offering any NBN products I'm going to need a new email address. They won't be offering any way of retaining my current email address.

I want to have a professional .au email address with an on-line provider so that I don't have to change everything again if I churn my ISP. Basically it would be used for banking, bookings and bills. Not stuff that I want on a Yahoo, GMail type address.

* Noting the experiences of other AFFers I won't be rushing into NBN but do want to prepare now and churn when it suits me. This will also give me time to back up emails as required and ensure nothing important is lost.

I registered a domain years ago so that I have a portable email address. In fact I can have as many addresses as I want all ending in for example @me.com.au
I used a MEL company that provides excellent service, Crystal Web Designs. I can use either webmail or a client such as Outlook.

You can get a gmail address and if you own your own cheap domain, link it and you can have anything.au

I own a number of domains, allowing me flexibility to use any of them for email with anything I like in front of the ‘@‘. This means if signing up for a website I can quickly create a new, disposable address just for them if I am unsure they will spam me. Google hosts all my emails for a low $5.50/month. Though I still have to pay the yearly domain fees of course.

Is that $5.50/month per email address or for as many addresses as you like?

Buy your domain name, then use the free mail service from Zoho. It has worked flawlessly for me for nearly 2 years. Simple to set up too.

I have used “fastmail” for some years now and find it very good.

An Australian service based in Melbourne with servers around the world.

Very low subscriptions depending on service required.

Can provide multiple sub addresses based on the primary address.

Compatible most popular email programs i.e. outlook, apple , Android etc.
