Hey all,

Nearly time for me and the missus to use our points booking the J RTW OneWorld award. Currently am a QP PS.

Everything about this reward is great, except American Airlines doesn't have Domestic J class (few exceptions I know..).

For us that means Y travel for the AA legs. Which means no lounges, no priority check-in. I am more inclined to keep my QP for another year to have AA lounge access, and let my QF Silver go back to Bronze, and focus on retaining my VA Platinum.

So my question is, apart from the OW Ruby benefits (not many IMO), is there any point keeping PS for my trip?
It wouldn't be hard to keep my PS, but as I said before I want to ensure all my energy is put into retaining VA Plat. ANd the way I see it, I will get J benefits (seats, lounge, check-in etc) for the rest of the trip anyway.

Cheers,
UB.

You might consider a 30day Admirals Club membership if you want lounge access whilst in the US.

Also note that even if you are travelling in First on domestic AA flights you are not entitled to lounge access. (Unlike QF for example, who bundle lounge access as part of their domestic J fare).

I believe PS will give you priority boarding, and possibly priority check-in.

There is no priority boarding for oneworld Ruby passengers on American Airlines.

While it's not an official oneworld benefit, American extend priority boarding privileges (as part of PriorityAAccess) to oneworld Ruby members.

American Airlines said:
Who's eligible for PriorityAAccess?
oneworld® Emerald, Sapphire, and Ruby members

So that means:
- Priority boarding (but still after First, uniformed military, Exec Plat, Emerald, Plat, Sapphire)
- Priority security
- Priority check-in

About the only thing a Silver/Ruby pax won't receive that's extended to Sapphire and Emerald (besides lounge access) is priority baggage

Very happy to be corrected on this. Great news for oneworld Ruby members.

Priority security is really handy in the US I reckon.

I was traveling with AA as QP Silver for the last 2 weeks around the US on a holiday, priority was printed on my BP and it worked quite well as did the above benefits, I didn't get charge baggage even on the lowest class which doesn't include baggage.

Are the benefits worth it for keeping PS, depends on how far you are off you are and how many AA flights.

Aah yes I should have mentioned that. AA give all oneworld status members 2 free checked bags at 23kg each.

They also extend the benefits (including those ones I already mentioned) to anyone flying on the same booking. American Airlines Checked Baggage Charge Exceptions | AA.com

It makes it worthwhile to try and get silver before flying in the US.

Thanks for the reply guys, personally for 2-3 AA flights I don't see the value in keeping PS, but appreciate the advice!
