Question to all of my fellow flyers. Have been SQ Gold for a couple of years but after moving to Australia transferred my preferred program to Velocity. Am Platinum now with Velocity and requalified for 2015. Frequent traveler on Mel-Sin but rethinking my decisions. Velocity and Singapore are not a very good combination (seat selection issues are discussed earlier as well as issues with lounge access when flying SQ to airports without SQ lounges). Should I move my business (and I am a flyer that pays for almost all my trips myself, not for business purposes, but for fun). to One World. Currently used Marco Polo offer Amex Platinum, to get to One World Gold Status. Should I now try to requalify via Marco Polo or do Qantas?
I have been reading a lot of posts and I know it is merely a personal preference, but I wonder what other think. Flying more with One World - quoting my Qantas FF number from now on and trying to get Gold with Qantas and then keep it there?
Do you think the benefits from One World are better - or more consistent? I would like to keep supporting VA, but think the Frequent Flyer program is missing some of its power internationally and I miss the lack of recognition and the feel that I need to hassle to get the benefits.
I do use the family pooling offer, which is great from Velocity.
Probably with 2 business flights from Oz to Malaysia it would be easy to requalify One World Gold - would this be the same if I add those SC to Qantas?

Looking forward to your responses and believe: already read a lot, but just hope this question will help to make a decision.
Could always try one year, while Velocity would offer a soft landing after 2015....

Don't know if I am ready to not fly Virgin domestically. Really like the feel of Virgin and want to support them too.

Re: One world or Velocity

Personally, I think its always good to have status on the airline in the country in which you live, or at least do the most flying. If you already have Virgin squared away until 2015, I would use Qantas as my OneWorld vehicle. Once you reach status, then, for the majority of Australian flights you do, you would not have status influencing your choice - price and convenience would move up, as they should. Both are good airlines (but both have lousy IT).

I don't know how the status earning rates compare with Qantas and CX, sorry.

Re: One world or Velocity

If you have AMEX Platinum, I believe the CX MPO Gold benefit is a recurring one, ie. you don't need to re-qualify with BIS flights.

So if you're purely looking at benefits, why not stick to the status quo?

You already have the VA Platinum benefits as well as having OneWorld Sapphire benefits via CX MPO. So whether you fly VA partner airlines or OneWorld airlines, you'll have the respective benefits.

Alternatively, if you switch to QFF and following what you've said regarding your travel pattern, the highest level you'll achieve is Gold, then it's more or less similar to your CX MPO Gold.

If you lose your CX MPO Gold, then it's a different story. But will take more than 2 J class flights from OZ to Malaysia to attain and retain QFF Gold. But completely doable if you throw in domestic flights.

Any if you can reach QFF Platinum, then in my opinion, ditch Velocity and go for QFF. OneWorld Emerald is definitely more rewarding that VA Platinum if you often travel overseas with partner airlines.

There is no such status as OW gold. Gold is not gold. Name depend on the freq flyer program. Far better to refer to the OneWorld status:- Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby oneworld benefits - oneworld
With QF is relatively easy get high status with J & F fares, compared to other OW airlines.
But AA has far better earn to burn. AA has the (paid) gold/plat challenge for quicker status. Look in the AA forum
