Sorry if this is in the wrong place or has been brought up before.

I am being relocated to Singapore for work and will be travelling a fair bit (on the cusp of WP). Question is: should I stick with QFF or move to another Oneworld program? Or should I even switch to Star Alliance?

My goal is to achieve WP ASAP. I'm thinking the only reason I should stick with QFF is for lifetime gold but I'm way away from that.

Thoughts?

Singapore is still good, you still have a lot of OW members around, and QF still flies there from and to Aust via various cities.
You can also earn from not too much spending if you go over the border to Malaysia by road, and then go around Asia with MH dom J, or int J.
JL also flies there, SIN that is, so you could fly SIN - NRT if you need to go up that way.
Stick with QF I say.
I think EK still flies there, (of course they are not OW), and would probably carry less QF flight numbers, esp if not passing Aust.
Edit: if you go and read about SQ's PPS, their value system, their PPS Silver is 25000 per year, and to earn that, you have to only fly SQ's J or F or subclass of these, other classes don't count, so its hard to get to 25000, just to get PPS Silver, with not a lot of benefits.
PPS Gold at 50000 is where the good times roll, but SQ fares tend to be quite pricey, so it will be quite hard to try to catch 50000 PPS value in a year.
And PPS is not accumulated when flying J or F with their (SQ's) partners.
At least with QF. you will earn SC in all eligibile classes, and also with majority of partners where SC is earnt, granted some partners dont issue SC to QF members, just points.
You also have BA to LHR, if you want to try that one, apart from QF1.
I will end my waffly here.

Key determinant will be whether you have choice of airline, or whether your company has a preferred carrier (likely SQ).

Keeping Qantas status would be useful for lounge benefits on evening 3K (Jetstar Asia) flights

The questions which jump to my mind are where will you be travelling, how frequently and in what class?

I will probably fly twice a month within Asia, predominately in business. I will also fly back to Aus once or twice a year in either business or economy

SQ is ridiculously expensive flying J throughout Asia. I think our policy is Oneworld but to be confirmed

I definitely want to stick with Oneworld. SQ is not worth trying to get status

Sticking with Qantas is probably the way I would go. Flights in Asia on Malaysia Airlines in Business accrue healthily to Qantas and the international lounges are quite good. Then fly Qantas to and from Australia to make sure you get your minimum sectors to maintain status next year.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks for the help

Oneworld will be good if your flights are predominantly to Japan, HKG and Malaysia (and Dubai with QF status). Also a limited schedule to BKK -once a day to BKK - which not really business friendly timing.

If travelling elsewhere in Asia (China, India, Philippines, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam) oneworld is difficult, and can even hamper your lifestyle. If you’re coming back from Shanghai, say, on a Friday afternoon, do you want to have a 5.5-6 hr trip on SQ (or MU) or take a 9-10hr journey via HKG with a risk that you will be stuck on the ground at PVG for an hour waiting for ATC clearance and that connection time you had in HKG has just evaporated?

Also restricting yourself to QF back to AU is consigning yourself to overnight flights only (unless you are travelling to PER - or MEL on EK).

Of course you are bound by company travel policies and they are what they are. But if there is a wide variety of destinations you are travelling to - oneworld is difficult.

When I moved to SIN 11 years ago now I held onto WP for a couple of years -enough to get me to LTG, but that wasn’t easy. My main use of QFF now is on EK - and the occasional MH and QF flight and I have not looked back.

It may depend on how long you’re here for but SQ also has better redemption options - in all cabins - than QF and great for credit card points. (Although QFF is partner of several banks, transfer rates are the same and 1 SQ point is in most instances worth more than 1 QFF point).

Lastly, definitely worth considering getting a few Priority Pass linked credit cards for lounge access - I have 3 that give me 2 visits each free per year. Useful for when you need.

If you have to fly 3K aka Jetstar Asia, or any of its other ilks, (incarnations), ensure to book always book a bundle that earns, as their 3K basic fares do not earn QFF points or QF SC, important if you don't want to go over the border to start a sector.

OT but just want to correct this if anyone else finds it. PPS and their Krisflyer gold/silver levels are very different. 25,000/50,000 elite miles are required for Silver/Gold, these can be earned in economy as well as *A airlines too. The PPS club at a start comes with *G, that is earned via SG$25,000 in SQ Business or First class fares in a year. This would be more equivalent to platinum on the QF scale, whilst PPS Solitaire is SG$50,000 in a year and is more P1 (though only solitaire gets First class lounge access).

KF Silver gets you pretty much nothing, KF Gold gets you *A Gold and lounge access (but when flying SQ you get their worse Star Gold lounge).
