OneWorld Emerald Status - are we allowed extra baggage allowance on all OW airlines?

Am Qantas Platinum FF. Flying CX to HK but not on a QF operated flight. Does anyone know if we entitled to the same extra baggage allowances as if we are flying Qantas? Thank you in advance.

No.

There is no additional allowance on other airlines

Technically you do get additional luggage on AA with OWE:

The following passengers will be allowed a 1st and/or 2nd checked bag at no additional charge provided it falls within the size and weight limitations:

* American Airlines AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum® or AAdvantage Gold® members
* oneworld Alliance Emerald, Sapphire or Ruby members
* Customers flying on the same reservation as an American Airlines AAdvantage Executive Platinum, AAdvantage Platinum or AAdvantage Gold member or oneworld Alliance Emerald, Sapphire or Ruby member regardless of frequent flier status or fare type (not applicable to group bookings)

But yeah, regarding Cathay and most other airlines I'm not aware of any special baggage exemptions. (Cathay does normally give priority or First tagging though which is nice)

Dave what happens if you are flying QF and you will transfer in HKG to CX in HKG then onto USA, for example, and using your additional baggage allowance in SYD (QF WP) and you bag has been interlined through?


Any extra payments to QF for CX?

They can indeed charge the excess baggage fee onwards and if it is a return trip expect to be charged excess fees by the other carrier on the way back
