Oneworld circle asia fare.

As long as the transit through HKG is permissable this becomes a great fare. WIthout that transit this would be impossible for me.

It is great value as well. Even for a simple HKG visit in the future I plan to take this fare (maybe with a few more stops. That will be the challange - minimum 24 hours in another location...

Well - dates have just moved (21 May now) and I dont have to go to CAN any longer...

SO now its just SYD-HKG-PEK-PVG-SYD which will likely be SYD-HKG-PEK-NRT-PVG-cough-HKG-SYD - still waiting for F approval as well...

Well - hopefully this will be booked today. My boss has approved booking into F :D Now given that there is no F cabin on most of these flights (basically SYD-HKG-SYD are the only real F seats) will I be able to access the F lounge based on the ticket purchased or the J lounge based on cabin seated in?

Lounge access is determined by the boarding pass you are holding for the flight and the coloured splodge on your FF card. Generally the lounge agent has no visibility of the fare you paid.

Hmm - seems a little annoyng - but not a real drama given that the only F lounge I will really miss out on is the F lounge at NRT - and allegedly the new AA lounge is good there so that will be fine.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrghh - FCM wont ticket the fare due to the double dip into HKG (even though its a transit) - looks like a call to the Qantas travel desk might be in order.

Any thoughts on a good travel agent to use who might be able to ticket this?

I'm not surprised based on the fare rule extract in post #54. Refers to 1 departure from each region and 1 arrival. You have 2 arrivals and 2 departures in SE Asia (as defined). Transit or stopover doesn't come into that rule.

I agree KiwiFlyer - I was basing my itinerary on what I had been informed was possible - I will just call QF and see if they can ticket it and see :?:

Hmm - just spoke to QF. The quote I had for my itinerary as planned from FCM was $11689+470 taxes. QF wouldnt ticket it as a circle asia fare AND they maintained that on a circle or RTW ticket you cant back track to the same city (which I know isnt true for DONEx).

However they ticket as a mileage based point to point fare at $9824 (I assume its +++ but they didnt mention plus taxes I think).

A little more cajoling might be in order...

Well thanks to jasonja3 pproviding me some info my fare is now being ticketed as a circle asia fare for $4600+++ - sadly they found D availability on my flights :(

Just waiting for the call back with teh confirmations - I am not entirely convinced that it will be in D as I cant see any availability on EF on the CX flight SYD-HKG and I am not sure that they have tgtwwm on the right flight out of HKG - but at least the fare in concept is sound :)

Simongr can you post your final itinerary.

I have potentially quite a bit of travel to Asia in the next 12 months, and if this could be done in J (D) for ~$4600 +++, then I might just be able to convince my employer to let me fly J instead of Y

Sadly another call has just come through indicating that the existing itineray for jasonja3 is illegal :( So I have cut the second hkg leg from my trip and am now flying:

syd-hkg-pek-nrt-pvg-nrt-syd

Thankfully I think they have now found out as I originally told them that there isnt availability in D for now one flight which has an F option :( SO I will at least get the F seat on the way out.

Once it is locked in (and I need to recheck anyway after our board meeting tonight in the US as the whole trip may be put off for a month - in which case it migth in fact be done as two trips - one a circ asia and one adding to the DONE4) I will post the itinerary.

Hmmmm,
I guess I am very lucky, as my itinerary would not have suited the circle asia fare this week then.

It would seem that even the QF staff interpret the rules differently, as both the CSA and their supervisor OK'ed the fare. I hope they do not get into trouble over my fare. I guess there is always a learning curve with new products in any industry.

Its been a roller coaster this morning - first the CSA and the supervisor approved the fare and i was told they had to "build" the fare in system. They called back an hour later to say it couldnt be ticketed and that my initial booking on a Dragonair (CX Codeshare) was not appropriate. I suggested a CX flight that yesterday I was told didnt exist. At least I have my itinerary now:

I think for my next Asia visit I will be booking it much further ahead and only need to go to Shanghai and Hong Kong. What will p*** them off is if I get a call tomorrow postponing the trip for a month :D

Woo Hoo - my trip is now confirmed! Ulp having watched 24 recently I am little concerned now about travelling to China!!!!

This is certainly going to be an exciting one :D

There are days when I think the FFer gods are against (thankfully only days when I am not actually flying).

I was on the phone to QF just about to pay for the ticket when I got another call from my CHina colleagues - changing the dates, locations and amount of time we can spend there....

Back to the drawing board I guess...

My last destination before home was TPE, and when speaking to QF, they said through HKG was the only way to get back to SYD, I think this had some influence in approval.

I have never booked a circle fare until now, so no experience at all...excuse my ignorance. If you have a simple circle fare such as this, eight segments and limited by miles, for what purpose is a stopover, if not to allow an itinerary such as mine (crossing back through a region to reach a destination)? What is the definition of a stopover? I know that is is less than 24hrs, and that's about all.

Again, please excuse me if I am missing something obvious.

Stopover is more than 24 hours, transit is under.

The point is the product was intended to allow circle routing

Oz/NZ to South Asia
South Asia to North Asia
North Asia to Oz/NZ

(or other direction)

It wasnt intended as a Oz/NZ to North Asia via South Asia both ways product.
