"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Any specific reason you want to sample only A380s ?
I heard that CX's J product is amongst the worlds best albeit in a Boeing 777 - might be worth checking it out ?

I have flown the new J class on the CX A330 so just want to try something different.. It is definitely very good though..

Have also flown EK A380 in F and J so would be good to compare!

Probably my last OneWorld award... they're getting a bit hard to work with!
For me planning is half the fun.

Can't wait to start planning my first of what would hopefully be many trips over the next few years.

NB question here in relation to OW trip:

Wonder if there has been any successful WP requesting seat release (Y or J) for the purpose of an OneWorld 140K/240K trip.

Or, this type of OW trip does not include that possibility.

I am at the stage of playing around some dummy booking but could not find some that I like - perennial problem, I know.

Wonder if in the end I should be able to call up as a WP to ask for a release of some Y seats to complete the OW plan come the real dates.

E.g. no QF127 (A380), the only seats on offer are on the 747s.

Thanks

Keep in mind that Gold and above can already see more award availability than those with lower status or no status at all.

I cannot see any reason why you would not be able to ask for award seats to be released on Qantas flights part of the Oneworld award.

Quick question on my draft OW Award for 2014 in J...I am looking at travelling from MEL-LHR and have an option of QF9 (via Dubai) but then goes all the way through to London or QF9 and BA106..which gives you a couple of hours in Dubai, any thoughts, both seem to arrive within a few hours of each other QF9 at 5.10am and BA106 at 6.40am...I guess I would get lounge access if we went for the latter ?

Taking BA106 would only get you access to the BA lounge not the EK lounge.

Edit: in DXB

Taking BA106 would only get you access to the BA lounge not the EK lounge.

If you wanted EK lounge access in DXB and arrive later into LHR, you could switch to QF1 however that will count as an extra segment.

Or are you talking about AArrivals lounge access in LHR?

I'm referring to lounge access pre-flight in DXB - edited my last post to reflect that clarification.

Has anyone tried any routings involving South America with the new multi-city booking tool? As soon as I add that continent into the mix, it always returns "cannot find fare" or "to find recommendations" even though the routing should be valid and there are definitely seats available.

I think this question is in the wrong thread...

Ive had the same problem finding QFF award availability on LAN flights in South America, but got put onto awardnexus website which has been great. (Refer posts #718 & #719 on page 72)

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I have a general question, the current T&Cs are here:
Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions

14.5 Classic Awards - oneworld Award booking conditions

14.5.1 A oneworld Award is a Classic Award Itinerary that includes travel on at least two oneworld Alliance Airlines other than Qantas and does not include any travel on any airline that is not a oneworld Alliance Airline.

14.5.2 Classic Awards using the oneworld Classic Award table must be no more than a distance of 56,315 kilometres (35,000 miles). Longer journeys must be broken into separate Itineraries.
14.5.3 A one way oneworld Award Itinerary will be charged as a return Itinerary. oneworld Award Itineraries finishing in a port other than the port of origin must include the distance to return directly to the port of origin when calculating the number of Points required to redeem the Flight Award and the maximum distance for the Itinerary.

14.5.4 The following Stopover conditions apply:
(a) up to five free Stopovers are permitted;
(b) additional Stopovers are not permitted;
(c) only one Stopover is permitted in any one city in the Itinerary; and
(d) only two Transfers may be taken at any one city in the Itinerary.

14.5.5 Surface Segments are permitted as part of oneworld Award Itineraries, but the distance between the disembarkation point and the next embarkation point will be included in the Award Point zone calculation for that Itinerary.

14.5.6 Where mixed-class travel is booked, the whole Itinerary will be calculated using the Points level for the highest class booked.

I'm getting this confused with the xONEx products, so ultimately does this mean (for example) you could have your 5 stopovers in Europe and not have to go around the world in any direction, as long as you meet the required two OW airlines other than QF and stay under the 35,000 mile limit?

Yes that's correct. We did that last year, flying to London via HKG with CX and returning via SIN with QF. We used BA for several stopovers in Europe. On our final leg we flew from Venice via London to Sydney and the taxes were lower because we transitted through LHR compared with when we originally had it booked to depart from LHR. We were on a J 280K award and got a refund of several hundred dollars taxes when we added the VCE-LHR leg, with an 8 hour stopover at LHR.

Thanks, it's a great option for a multi-stop trip in one or two regions that doesn't require you to go RTW.. may be popular if classic ASAs ever get pulled (hopefully not)

Be careful about 14.5.3 as the distance to point of origin is included in your 35,000 mile limit.

Can I return to the city of origin in the middle of my trip?

Ie. HKG-HEL-AGP*-HEL-HKG-KTM*-KUL*-HKG*-PVG-LAX-PHX*-LAX-PVG-HKG?

34581 miles, all oneworld, 5 carriers, 5 stopovers, 13 flights, max 2 transfers + 1 stopover per city, query on returning to city of origin mid-trip?

Sorry if this has been answered already - I couldn't find it.

No you cannot. You cannot return to the city or country of origin. Once you do, the trip is over, no more flights are allowed after that.

One question, according to QF rules, is HKG & China considered the same "country"? This may (or may not) help footy99, given the proximity of CAN to HKG. The reason I ask this is that in one of the one world products (Circle Asia - although it completely unrelated to the QF oneworld award, as it is a paid product), HKG is differentiated from China (in that it is considered part of "SE Asia" and China part of "North Asia").
