"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

You do have to phone up to make changes, including adding flights to your itinerary, as per the process outlined in the linked article.
Ah, thanks so much. So if I'm booking a a trip that only has 3 flights available right now (requirements okay for 318K OWA) and each additional flight is only going to be made available one month at a time from February onwards, then I'd have to phone up every time and make sure I have enough points available for each change? :(

Pretty much yes - unless you are willing to take the chance that a flight would still be available one or two months after release and you could reduce the number of calls you'd make.

Hi all, I made a OWCA for 2 adults + 1 child on 22 Dec which showed the taxes in SGD as we are commencing the journey from SIN. Taxes were shown as SGD $3894.70 for the three of us. When the booking was made online, there was a pending amount of AUD 4427.18 immediately shown on my card. Today I was checking the transactions on the card and now the qantas transaction shows the final amount (i.e. not pending) as AUD 1428.87. It seems this is the taxes for may be one person but I can not see any other transactions from Qantas. Has anyone seen this issue? what should I do? I am QF Bronze as such won't have any chance of reaching a competent call centre.

Whenever I make a booking for myself and Mrs SS the confirmed transactions on my credit card are always posted individually wehereas the pending transaction is always for the total amount.

Just before Christmas I got a dreaded "Action Needed" email for a OWA booking for mid this year. There were minor time changes on 4 flights, including connecting flights, the biggest was 15 mins. I've been dreading clicking the accept button given problems I've had in the past trying to get minor time changes reticketed. Well today I did it as I had a free day to spend on the phone to the CC if needed.
Well I accepted the changes, CMT didn't show any new ticket number on my computer and on phone app. I thought it wouldn't need reticketing. Then 10 mins later a new e-ticket email arrived with new ticket number and CMT had updated too. I don't know if I was just lucky or QF have updated the automated ticketing system.

… Has anyone seen this issue? what should I do? I am QF Bronze as such won't have any chance of reaching a competent call centre.

Suggest to give it a few more days to sort itself out (patience Grasshopper)

thanks @SydneySwan. Are the confirmed transactions posted on the same day for both of you? My only transaction is dated 28 Dec, hope the other two get posted soon.

Yes. My friend did nothing in a similar situation a few years ago and there were no issues or follow-up. There is a saying: ‘Let sleeping dogs lie’. 😉

And then monitor CMT to check that the flights remain ticketed. If they become unticketed then you need to call for immediate reticketing.
Just joined and reading all the great info on the site. Was wondering what CMT stands for/is, how to access it and if there are any alternatives. Thanks

Contacted Qantas to ask if I could get points refunded for OWA for remaining legs (flew first leg already). Advised per T&C, partially completed ticket will only have taxes refunded. I couldn't find anything in the T&C about this. Going to contact my credit card insurance to see if I can claim the points back, and the cost of the flight I ended up taking back home.

This is the applicable rule:
14.9.3 Once any travel has commenced on a Classic Flight Reward, the Reward is considered used, even if the remaining travel is not completed. Qantas Points will not be re-credited to the Member's account for unused ticket coupons.

Note that a OWCA is a subset of Classic Flight Reward…

In my experience, once you have flown one segment and cancel the remainder of the ticket, you will receive zero refund of points and taxes.

This is what I expected. If you are able to construct an insurance claim then it should offer either the flight home or the intake travel but not both, otherwise you are double dipping. Your insurance claim would be much stronger with a police report and a medical report to say that you experienced trauma and were unfit to continue your travel.

Thanks for your help. I don't have a report but that's ok, just glad to be home.

Just received an email that my RAK > LGW flight has been cancelled and i've been given an alternative flight on the previous day.

Only issue with this is I was flying RAK > LGW then LHR to DEL 9 hours later.

With the new option i'll be in London for 32 hours before my Delhi flight. However i've already got a stopover in London 2 weeks prior to this on the same itinerary.

So the new itinerary i've been offered is non-compliant with OWA rules due to having 2x stopovers in london.

I've hit accept, but does anyone know if this is going to require a phonecall to Qantas (I sure hope not), or will it re-ticket without issue? Currently sitting patiently waiting for the new e-ticket email.......

Edit: e-ticket received in 5mins, and reflected in CMT as well. Huh. Interesting.
A little annoying they moved me to the previous day's flight instead of moving me 2 hours to the same day's flight that is still scheduled to fly....
