You could just not board the flight to MEL, and make a separate booking for that final leg.
Make sure baggage not checked through.
Married segments are not uncommon
I was kind of hoping to get it within the 318,000 points. But if I can't, I can't. (I just don't really understand why.)

The logic behind married segments would be that they want to have through tickets available between LHR and MEL - in order to give MEL pax access to the network and splitting the flight takes away that seat on two separate dates - or to make people travelling PER-MEL pay revenue or use less attractive flights. Who knows the logic on this particular married pair, but the airline will have done some sums and concluded it will be more profitable to keep the sectors together than let them go separately.

Does that mean there would be a certain number of (unmarried) seats on LHR-PER allocated to passengers terminating in PER and a certain number (like mine) that are married with the PER-MEL segment?

I'm not far off cancelling my 2nd ticketed attempt at a RTW Business trip. First was in 2020, Covid hit and then my partner passed away after a short illness. Got everything refunded. Ticketed again for Sept this year travelling with my sister but the itinerary is too tight to risk failing a RAT test at any one of 3 departure points. One leg was Hong Kong and that is off as a stopover. I wonder if it'll ever happen......

I am sorry for your troubles in 2020.

September is months away. Covid restrictions are being removed every week. I would hold off on doing anything rash right now.
 
I know this has been discussed upthread in the last 564 pages but does the multi-city tool treat NZ and Australia as one country? Trying to start a OWA in NZ so I can nest two departures from Australia in the one award, but when I do the second departure leg from Australia it says:
  • This itinerary can’t include more than one flight departing from the same city or country of the first flight (including transits). Choose another route to continue.
I'm meeting all the transit, stopover, 2 airlines and mileage rules. Can this be got around by calling or is there an online workaround?

Yes. Several reports that this is the case.

Calling may get a resolution and will likely require with both a proactive agent and escalation, but still no guarantee.

I've been working out an ATW in 'J' for my wife and the conditions as spelt out by QF were:
1. 285000 points,
2. Must use 3 (or more) carriers,
3. Only allowed 5 stop overs,
4. Doesn't actually have to be ATW just a combination that fits the above conditions.

Is it a three carrier minimum, or two non-Qantas carriers? (ie. you can include QF, but it doesn't count as one of the minimum two)

At least two non-Qantas OW carriers. The inclusion of a Qantas flight (or any other OW airline) as a third carrier is optional.

It looks as though you have three unused stopovers - unless your stops in DOH or PHL exceed 24 hours. If you add more segments, you must stay within 35,000 miles and not have more than one stop of 24+ hours in any one city.
 
It shouldn't be - but it is - certainly if you're looking at a serious multi-leg fare.
My 318k (Sept 22) might not be "serious", but I managed to do it all online last month:

90mins at DOH, and 2.5hrs at PHL
So i'd just have to call up QF to add in extra side trip, as long as its under the total 35kmiles.

It shouldn't be - but it is - certainly if you're looking at a serious multi-leg fare.
Actually , it is better to book some round the world segments and if you have missing parts , call the FF centre(if u can) and explain that some are not showing up and ask them to book it and also ask politely to remove the booking fee or points and they will do that as well.
I have taken 2 business class tickets on points in 2017 and 2019, Syd-Lon-NY-HK-Tokyo-Syd. Never had any issues except in 2019, NY to HK 15 hr flight(cathay) was not good since catering was very poor for business class. I take this route on business and never had issues before. Try using Haneda in Tokyo rather than Narita since Haneda is now quite good and only 45 mints to Tokyo. Also avoid busy Narita.
BTW, check Hyatts in Shinjuku for good hotel rates and also its a nice place to start your Japan tour. So far Japan Air got great business class prices to Europe and best is take a direct to Europe via Haneda and when you are back spend few days/weeks in japan. I got 2 business tickets with JA travelling to Europe in august. Its qantas loss since they are so disorganised.

You are correct but you may be surprised to discover quite how much heavy lifting the 'just' is doing in your post...

And note that you cannot have a 24+ hour stop in the same city either side of a side trip. You can have up to two stops of less than 24 hours and one of more than 24 hours in any one city.

I called up QF last week to cancel another booking, and was talking to an agent within 10 mins- QF SG status- was sweating on the expected "normal" wait time.
So could i add a CVG-ANC. ANC-CVG
