"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Check My Trip would have notified you, but I know some people have a touching faith in Qantas PDFs and prefer to avoid real time updates on CMT...
Unfortunately I'm late to the party and have only just found this suggestion in the forum today. I've got it now, so may help for future issues.

Regardless, still a joyous call (or perhaps many) to the call centre today to try and find something (anything) to get me to where I need to go.

At the risk of stating the obvious, you'll get a better outcome if you go into the call with solutions, not problems. Know what really matters (dates, destinations) and be flexible about what does not matter so much.

I've been trying to book this OWA since 2018 - so I've got a very detailed spreadsheet with all of my previous routes, changes, planning and two alternative routes already here in front of me ready to go.

I always go in prepared because each experience with the call centres I've had during these years has been the same (traumatic). But I also agree with what was said earlier re hearing what the operator has to say before proposing my idea.

Swings and roundabouts. I prefer to have my destiny in my own hands and if I have a solution I like, I would prefer to use it as the opening gambit rather than have the agent offer something I like less - especially if I am looking at doing something a little bit creative. Other seem to report that once an agent has found a viable alternative they are less willing to listen to alternatives.

Well with yet another time change for my flight departing MEL for LHR QF have finally issued my e-ticket and all my flights are now Business (U)!!

Does anyone know where I can find photos of the seating in a Boeing 787-9 particularly business class with the bassinets?

I have this for our QF SYD - JNB flight on the 787-9 but can't remember where I got it from. Prob not the detail you are after

In the Ukraine thread I saw this comment:
"Japan Airlines Co Ltd will cancel all flights to and from Europe on Thursday, citing concerns about the situation in Ukraine and following a similar move by bigger rival ANA Holdings Inc."

That could play havoc with quite a few OWA bookings for the LHR - HND and HEL - HND routes.

You have to wonder how long this is going to last. Of course, like everyone else I hope Russia does back down. But assuming Russia is not going to withdraw from the Ukraine any time soon, will it be sustainable for Japan and much of south east Asia to be cut off from Europe indefinitely? And if not, how does the climb-down happen?

Sorry to be a pain, but it's just "Ukraine", not "The Ukraine"

Well I hope not, why can't they just fly around it?

Probably the double whammy of low demand given Japan is not open for tourism, combined with fact that extra flying time will increase fuel costs and decrease freight payload.

Interesting to see if this happens, they updated the relevant page just today and didn’t cancel the Europe flights when they did. https://www.jal.co.jp/jp/en/info/2022/inter/220301/

Finnair has cancelled all flights to China, Japan and Korea until the 6th March and will re-assess further action then.
Their press release on 28th Feb stated that having to bypass Russian airspace makes their flights to Asia "not economically sustainable or competitive".
The same factors would apply to JL.

The Great Circle route ex Tokyo goes over eastern Siberia then down into Europe. Going south and skirting a route akin to TG or SQ wouldn’t be practical?

Flying up through the Bering Strait probably wouldn’t be any better?

Yeah i had a flight change and actually received an updated eticket too :)

I have been able to select seats of all of my legs except those operated by AA (JFK-ORD and ORD-DFW). Seems the QF booking reference doesnt work on AA site like it does with BA - is there a trick to selecting AA seats or will i have to play seat roulette at the airport?

Not sure, it worked for me on JAL's site.

From memory (which admittedly may be completely wrong), for both AA & IB you can ring QF and ask them for the AA or IB booking reference for your itinerary (they don't the use Amadeus system that QF does) and then use that to select seats at MMB on their respective websites.
