"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Check on the qantas website. Then ring up Qantas. Will cost 5000 points to change existing booking. Just has to be availability on the dates you want
What was interesting was Qantas saw flights that I didn't see.

Is it worth ringing them randomly to see if a first class LHR to LAX has come up ?

What do you guys think of my F itinerary?

1. Sydney to Paris (Qatar First)
2. Paris to Hong Kong (Cathay First)
3. Hong Kong to Tokyo (JAL First)
4. Tokyo to New York (JAL First)
5. New York to LA (AA First) - hopefully there is First for domestic
LA to Sydney (Qantas First)
It's over the 35k miles. At least you are thinking of the options...

Dealing with Qantas has to be the most frustrating experience I have ever had.

I contacted Qantas via chat last night to check on the cost of the taxes on my flights that I had completed booking in January as something seemed amiss. I was informed that he couldn’t help and he gave me the link to request the tax invoice for by booking. He said that was the way or to call. So the link doesn’t work and just gives a message about an email error. I was feeling brave so I called and to my amazement got through in just under 30 minutes. Great help he was just telling me to use the same link that didn’t work!

He asked if he could do anything else and as we had been toying with the idea of flying to London from Amsterdam rather than taking the train, I asked if he could see any flights. On the website there were none so I wasn’t expecting any. Surprisingly he could see 11 on the day I wanted to fly. He booked the one we were after and I begged him to make sure the ticket was reissued so I didn’t lose my hard searched for CX flights. That was at 10pm last night. He went away and came back reassuring me he had done everything. Pigs you know what!!! I checked at 2am and everything looked good. I checked again at 5am and still all good. 5:15 and all CX flights are gone. Got through to them by 5:40 and my flights to Perth are gone. All others are OK just we are now stranded in Hong Kong. At least they gave me back my 10K points!

Moral to the story is you DO NOT believe the consultants because they lie! If you have CX flights hang on and pray. We seem to be wait listed for the flight home waiting to see if CX will release some seats for us. Here’s hoping. :)

If CX don't, then QF will more then likely re-route you on their metal due to the agent knowing but not 'rectifying' the error.

FYI, landed up add a LHR - MUC - LHR side trip to my booking, meaning my long haul flight to MLE now departs MUC and not LHR. Saved ~$450 all up with an additional side trip.

Thanks for that. I was only slight over by a couple hundred miles. So I cut out Hong Kong which gets me to ~33'000miles

SYD-CDG - Qatar F
CDG-HND - JAL F
NRT-JFK - JAL F
JFK-LAX - AA F
LAX-SYD - Qantas F

So it looks like I have one more stopover available but I think I have too much to do as it is...

I was told by an agent that QFF would've "made good" (her words not mine) if my CX flights weren't able to be reinstated. Glad I didn't have to try that out though.

Good itinerary, what were the taxes/surcharges?

Good luck in finding award space, in particular JFK-LAX on AA Flagship F.
Haven't checked but are QR releasing many SYD-DOH F awards?

I'm not sure, this is my first time. I used the surcharge list in the wiki for a guide though:
SYD-CDG (QR) = 350
CDG-HND (JL) = 125
NRT-JFK (JL) = 125
JFK-LAX (AA) = ?
LAX-SYD (QA) = 350

Good luck in finding award space, in particular JFK-LAX on AA Flagship F.

Thanks. This is my first time, unsure how many seats are available, it sounds like its a very little.

In terms of the plan for booking..
From looking at the award seats release:
QR = 361 days
JL = 360 days
QF = 353 days
AA = 330 days

I am guessing that as soon as I am 361 days from the date I want my first flight (which is QR), I start trying to book my SYD-CDG leg? Then when 360 days from when I want my second flight (JL), I book my CDG-HND and on and on?

Thanks

Do you have Gold or Platinum status with QF? If not, it will be 297 days:(
