"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Did you do the initial booking on the QF site, or over the phone? If you did the original booking over the phone, PM me your record locator (just the record locator on its own is sufficient), I might be able to give you further insight.

The original booking (and these exact flights SYD-DOH-BUD were booked online at QF. The rest were added over the phone.

QR are normally pretty good at reinstating flights that have dropped off which had previously been ticketed. You will need to ask for a supervisor though as they need to contact QR's oneworld helpdesk to get them reinstated.

They would not reinstate mine. They said I had to wait three months or else change to another flight. That was what I ended up doing.

Did you speak to the premium desk or do you not have any status? The premium desk is certainly better at it. You have to escalate... it's definitely possible as I've had to go down that procedure a few times.

What did they say happens after you wait three months?

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I did not speak to the premium desk as I have no status. They said after three months, it might be confirmed but they couldn't promise anything. I felt like they were pressuring me to change to the Qantas flight they were offering instead. In the end, I felt there was no real choice but after hearing everyone else's stories, I am sorry that I didn't put up more of a fight as the Qatar option was much better.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

i asked if I could have an email address but was told that it would be a good idea but they didn't have one for that purpose

Hmmm. Must have changed then. Maybe yes, maybe no.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Sorry if this has been previously covered but I can't seem to book any QR award flights, and QF CSRs can't book for me. I get excuses ranging from I can't book QR multi city through Doha (QR won't allow), to website availability lagging to actual availability. Help?

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Are you searching sector by sector? eg. JNB-DOH then DOH-LHR? If you are originating in JNB and ending at LHR you must search as JNB-LHR not separately when it's QR/CX/IB as they use married segment control.

Finally I have saved enough QF points for around the world business class holiday well thats just the beginning....... I am now researching how to make all this come together ( i think I will need a holiday just doing this), when to fly, what destinations to fly to, when to book (how many days in advance for the different airlines), how many stopovers, how many miles traveled you need to have a masters degree to put this all together.
I am proposing traveling departing Melbourne 1st August 2017 to keep away from the school holidays in VIC and NSW and I am trusting seat availability will be ok around this time, the plan is Melbourne-Athens-London-New York-Cancun-Los Angles-Melbourne (5 stopovers). I would appreciate any tips or tricks to insure I get this right as the time to book is fast approaching.

Congratulations on saving up the the required points.
Certainly this will produce an excellent return for those valuable QFF points.

You sound like you have a good understanding of these bookings, but my only advice is to snap up availability ASAP as it will be added to inventory imminently.

1. Book first flight online when it becomes available.
2. Each time after that call up and pay 3500 points to add the additional flights.

Doing this means you can build your itinerary when the flights become available and don't risk losing them by waiting.

As madrooster says, you need availability searched by the whole journey, not just the parts.

I needed, and found, 4 x J SYD-DOH, DOH-CDG on QR, but could only book one or the other, not both, as there was no availability J SYD-CDG.
I found 4 x J SYD-HEL (via DOH) so jumped on that with a hop back from HEL-CDG, so still get the A380 from SYD-DOH that I was after..

Is that the same for all routes or just some? I had planned to book a SYD-MPM which doesn't come up at all as one, however is always available as a SYD-DOH then DOH-MPM

I think it's the same for all QR at least....call QF and ask what availability they see bookable for your scenario...

Using the BA tool, I had not problems finding individual sectors when searching. Eg, I needed BOS to SIN and I looked them up as two separate sectors before calling QF to book.

I've had success booking individual sectors before, just not with QR. I guess theres no way to stop over in Doha? They should implement this restriction into the booking engine to stop newbies like me getting grey hairs waiting on QF CS hold wondering whats wrong and why I can't book.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Asking a bit sheepishly ...

For the first time, I'm looking at booking a RTW oneWorld "280K" J trip. I was confused when I went to the QF site in not seeing where one does it. Going RTW take you to the oneWorld RTW revenue itinerary planning / booking area. (And this thread is a bit opaque on the actual booking mechanics, as far as I've got through the thread).

I called the QF premium line and the guy there, although trying hard to help, was as confused as I was. He eventually went off to ask someone "who's been here 10 years ..." and the reply was:

* For RTW award flight package, use the 'multi city booking tool, ticking that you want Classic Award flights' and

* Don't use it - its hopeless. Call up and we'll do it and not charge a fee.

I know the inadequacies of using the QF site to see actual availabilities (and the virtues of using JAL and BA sites), so would prefer to go via the phone line, but mechanically, is 'multi city' indeed the way to use the web site for RTW and is the phone line the 'final word' ?

Yes, for a 280k One World Award, use multi-city.
You'll see the points tally up as you add flights, and max out at 280k as you reach that limit, even when adding more...
