"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

We're getting closer - just an error message when it comes to calculating taxes.

Let's see if the support team can work out what's going on and I get a phone call back.

Incidentally, has anyone had any experience of with the domestic leg interfering with the availability of international classic award availability. For example, if you search Canberra to Jakarta a business option is not available.

But if search for the two segments separately then business options are available. Nevertheless, when it comes time to book, the call centre saying that the route cannot start from Canberra (even if the seat is economy) - making sense to anyone ?
Yes its intentional. If it doesn't show up under a Canberra to Jakarta search then its not bookable. You'll have to book CBR-SYD/MEL on a separate ticket.

Yes, I forgot to add on an initial domestic segment to SYD but after reading a lot of advice I opted to make a separate simple Y booking to SYD to start the OWA itinerary. The hassles and complications re adjusting the itinerary (even if it were possible) which could arise made me think it best to NOT upset the confirmed bookings. I would suggest just pay for a flight from CBR.

The option

Although if I were to book CBR - MEL - SYD or CBR - SYD - MEL it might be possible.

Has anyone managed to book flight originating from LIM to anywhere? The multi-city tool doesn't support entering it as an originating destination at all but does support it for arrival destination.

I'm trying to book LIM-MIA-MEX on AA and it seems like I must call to check availability.

Does anyone know how I can check if this route is available for booking before I call?

AA's website shows plenty of availability in rewards but Qantas call centre says none available. (24 Oct-4 Nov)

Do a multicity and stick something random before LIM. Try SCL-LIM or EZE-LIM and then, as flight, LIM-MIA and flight 3 MIA-MEX. Should at least show you availability.

QF seem to have released a lot of J classic rewards to everywhere except LHR & Europe. I can see flights up to 353 days out and I'm only NB.

Thanks for this, it seems it does let me select LIM as a source city but it won't let me complete the search. Any ideas..?

Assume those would be the new CR+ which are supposed to be released today?

Edit: actually may have been a CR dump as well??

Hmm that’s odd. It’s usually the other way around. Lima must be an oddity. Use the BA website. It’s accurate 99% of the time.

Heaps of CR+ seats appeared at 513000 points to LHR From everywhere. What does that mean for future availability of CR and OWA going forward I wonder

I don't think anything will change anytime soon, but no confirmation on anything yet.

What's a normal cr or owa points cost for compared to the new cr+ rate on above info?
Well for example, I’ve recently booked a OWA in August from ADE to Europe for 318000 I couldn’t say how many points a CR single to LHR would cost in points as I always do the OWA. But I guess not 513000 points but this is the option/cost to travel when you want on route you want.

I'm pretty sure CR+ won't count for OWA (i'd be shocked if it did and would advise everyone to abuse the cough out of it asap).

As for normal value - it depends on your route and flights. You may start taking additional flights you normally wouldn't, just because you can. Or transit through another city which you normally might fly direct because that's the OW carrier base. You could be booking 600k CR worth of points into a 318k OWA. On the flip side you can barely be scraping 400k as well. It all depends on where you're going and how many flights you're taking.

As for CR+ welll probably million(s) of points worth in a single 318k?

Absolutely sure it will not count towards OWA, it’s main outcome is surely to try and get some points off the balance sheet but I personally cannot see a time I would ever use my points for this type of booking.

Well I have finally put the last puzzle piece into place for a OWA over Chrimble and New Year.

My objective was to have a quick jaunt to Cuba. Unfortunately the poor availability of flights over the holiday period (especially in and out of Australia) has led to a convoluted route, a couple of side trips I did not need, and I am still having to add in some non OWA sectors.

My itinerary, OWA in bold and all in J unless stated otherwise:

MEL-SYD-AKL - QF and LA - separate award ticket due to unavailability of OW flights out of Australia
AKL-HKG - CX - Stop 1 - 1 night
HKG-KUL-BKK-HEL-LHR-MIA - MH, AY and AA - Stop 2
MIA-HAV - DL economy revenue flight - main trip - OWAs not available to/from Cuba
HAV-MIA - DL economy revenue flight - forced stay of 5 nights in Florida due to unavailability of onward flights
EYW-MIA - AA domestic F separate award ticket - insufficient spare mileage to add into OWA
MIA-HWL-DEL - AY - Stop 3 - 5 nights due to lack of availability of onward flights - I might do a side trip to Nagaland
DEL-MEL - QF - end of OWA

So the OWA bit is 9 flights and totals 34,908 miles including the 1,643 miles required to get back to AKL port of origin. It will be a total of 16 flights if I do a side trip in India, but I feel like I am not getting best value for this OWA with the amount of additional flights I am having to add on top, especially when I am not really using my stopovers.
