That doesn't seem right at all. Are you sure your routing is within the OW Award rules?

Thing is, if you try and make a change (add segments) to a booking with confirmed AB flights, it won't let you reissue the ticket. The window has passed to "hold on" to those segments.

If you have a booking containing AB flights and you are making other unrelated changes, then yes you will need to change the AB ones too.

What I'm specifically saying is, if you have a complete booking already and you have AB flights as part of that booking, then it may be wise to hold out until award availability disappears on the alternate routings so that you end up booked in a commercial class (J, C, D, I for example) and thus will earn to QFF (or whoever of your choosing).

i'm just after a bit of advice

i'm booking two OW J awards (280k kind) with my mother. Travelling together half the way.

I want to lock in a number of sectors that are currently available - should i books us together at this stage and then separate the PNR later on? Or is it best to keep them separate from the start? I'll be using the WP request seat benefit (hopefully) for one sector we're sharing.

Yep, all within the rules.

I know that BA have a high fuel surcharge but wasn't expecting that - maybe it was just a glitch?.?

It was definitely a glitch, as I've now been getting other OWE's to work with no issues and there have been none over $1,400 co-payment.

One thing I did want to check with everyone (I read through the wiki but got a little confused) was QR surcharges.

I was planning on routing back JFK-DOH-KUL, looking at trying the new QR QSuite product - this OWE came to $1,333 co-payment.

But then I changed the routing to JFK-HKG-KUL with CX/KA - this OWE then came to $808 co-payment.

Are QR surcharges really that much more expensive? If so, I'm not sure whether paying $525 extra pp is worth it just to try the QSuite product out.

Hi,

I am looking at a rtw itinerary october 2018 for my wife and myself.

The reason it is in this section is that, while I will be paying business class out of my own pocket , I will be using my points to cover my wife's flights.

I am pretty comfortable with the OWA process though dreading trying to get Award business LAX to Oz .

I would value your thoughts.

Basically I need a business fare for the itinerary but would need to use flights that I can book as OWAs for my wife ( eg no Emirates, no EI until part of OW)

The first important stopover is in Ireland .

We would probably need to go via HKG as there seems no other easy way out of BNE with OWA carriers that offer award seats ( eg QF)

The meeting is in western Ireland and EI flies to Shannon as BA codeshares out of Dublin and LHR ( this may not allowed for my wife as EI is not part of oneworld yet).

My next stopover would be San Francisco - no easy way out of western Ireland to SFO - looks like need to go via DUB and LHR. There are American Flights from Shannon to Philadelphia ( 757 a/c) to sfo but award seats appear to be rare.

Next stopover is Albuquerque and then

out of LAX or SFO home to Australia.

The final mileage for Brisbane-HKG-Shannon-SFO-ABQ-Brisbane is round 25,5000 miles.

I would be grateful for your suggestions for the paid business fare plus how to ensure it meshes with my wife's OWA.

Ozflier - AA has some trans Atlantic flights out of Dublin. QR flies into Dublin as well. Have you checked out the Oneworld Interactive Map?
I booked the first leg of our OW trip yesterday and got sooooo frustrated trying to get out of Australia to the US with Qantas. Ended up out of Sydney with BA-CX-CX. Could get nothing out of Brisbane or Cairns.

You're well under the maximum 35k mileage which is a good sign and will give you lots more options.

Codeshares on non-oneworld airlines are not permitted which rules out a BA code on EI.

As Mumanddad suggested, try using the oneworld timetable on the oneworld website. Avoiding LHR would be a positive although I believe the APD only applies if you stopover rather than transit. That said, one option out of DUB may be with AY via HEL to somewhere in Norther America. There's also BA1 from SNN-JFK (I believe BA has uplift rights in SNN). On the way home, given you've got so much mileage up your sleeve, don't forget CX via HKG and JL via TYO, both of which can then connect in the other (ie. TYO or HKG) as well as other one-stop destinations to Australia including KUL, SIN, MNL and CGK.

To get to Dublin, QR would be great but it does not fly out of BNE.
Loads of award seats out of KUL to DUB on QR but no direct flights to KUL from BNE.
There are a lot fewer flights out of Shannon these days.
EI has them eg to BOS or JFK. though on aircraft from ASL Airlines Ireland.
Re flight from Shannon to JFK - its Iberia metal - will check it is covered by OWA but initial checks via BA and QF show only Y availability.
Things would be so much easier if EI was part of OW but that looks some time off.
AA does fly to PHL but just cannot see any seats for awards for next september - too early to look at october.

I appreciate your thoughts - Finnair seem to offer so few if any business class awards anytime I have looked.
I have, in the past, actually scored a qantas business class seat lax to bne so i guess it is possible.

You have a good point.
The best chance at the moment is BNE-CNS-KHG and then direct to DUB of via LHR.
Cathay has a direct flight out of BNE but i cannot find anything other than Y.
Interestingly, QR out of SYD,MEL or ADL have plenty of Y and F but no award J.

If you meet all the other conditions of the award, I don't see what reason they have to deny it. Did they tell you which T&C specifically prevents backtracking?

Could it be the agent is confused with the RTW fare?

A case for HUCA perhaps?

I am happy that the fare is valid but have not tried this exact itinerary previously (ex AKL).

I might try again tomorrow as I have no confidence in anyone I have spoken to this weekend.
