Hi folks, looking for ideas for cheaper (but QF status credit earning) fares in J from Melb/Syd/Bris (prefer Mel) to the USA. Doesn't need to be direct. Have done Jetstar J to Hawaii before but keen to have actual lie-flat bed.

All ideas welcome!

thanks
Rebekka

Not quite oneworld, but you can earn Qantas points and status credits on Fiji Airways if you book on the QF code. There are some very good value J fares if you book ex NAN and I believe J is lie-flat on their A330s.

How much cheaper? Fiji often publish some pretty sharp pricing.

AA has also been offering sales of <$4k ex AKL.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

In my experience Fiji has good price points... CX is generally cheaper than QF on certain routes into the US

JL has 6k return AUD or so to various points in the US, year round. You can even visit Asia in the same trip for little extra.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I will check them all out. Never occurred to me that CX might be cheaper - every time I have priced any fares with them anywhere they've always been outrageously expensive!

Fiji looking like the best option at under $3k return. CX nearly $7000 almost a year in advance  I wouldn't mind a couple of days in Fiji either...

Thought about Qatar? $4.2k ex Syd to JFK, long way around though I know. I'm flying them to MIA in Feb, slightly longer but only 1 change of plane and looking forwarding to seeing what MIA customs is like instead of LAX as well as trying their first class offering in the A380!!

AA also has a special $4k(ish) fare ex AKL to the UISA in J. Yes, one has to get to NZ, but it's not an unattractive deal. QF also offers similar pricing on the AA service.

I can't easily find a reference in a quick google, but IIRC fare was valid for sale till end of November.

EF shows fares as I class with 21 day advance purchase, min stay 0, max 12M

Grab a cheap Y daylight award flight to HKG (stop) then next day in J to USA "direct" to numerous cities on CX, return to OZ on QF via LAX, SFO, YVR, DFW or via NAN on Fiji Air or AA via AKL, arr...the choices.
