I currently have a ticket booked with Cathay for SYD-HKG-SYD and i have nominated my Qantas FF number at the time of booking so i earn the associated FF point.

As i have not flown with Cathay before, i assume that the FF points will be credited to my account by Qantas. ?? (please advise if im wrong)

If i also go and become an Asia Miles member with Cathay, where will my FF points be credited - Qantas or Cathay?

Appreciate your help
John

What booking class are you booked in for the CX flights? I don't mean "First/Business/Economy", I mean "F/A/J/D/Y/B/H/K" (and so on).

If flying in First or Business class, you will get full credit of miles from CX to your QF account. If travelling in WHY however, you may or may not.

Fares and routes listed are those which are not eligible for earning Points unless otherwise specified:

Cathay Pacific: Codeshare or joint venture flights operated by airlines other than oneworld Alliance Airlines. Discounted fares booked in E, G, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, X, and Z class.

So I would be speaking to your travel adviser as to whether you will earn any points in the first place.

As to your second question, points can normally only be creditted to one program. So if you have your QF number in the booking, don't expect them to show up in AsiaMiles, and vice versa.

I have just logged in for the first time about to post my first post when I noticed this discussion.

I flew LHR - SYD on Cathay in March and have been trying to get my points for QF ff. Although I haven’t actually had a 'NO' yet I still haven’t received my points. I just checked my BP stub and noticed I was 'Y' class.

Are you saying a possibly wont get my points? sorry but the extract from QF website didnt make sense to me.

This is disheartening as I have been touting Cathay as my favourite airline at the moment after this flight (long story to be told at another time)

John T, in addition to the accurate reply from thadocta, note that if you were flying the same route on Qantas, you would get QF FF points for any paid class of travel, as well as any applicable status bonus points (25% for Silver, 50% for Gold and 100% for Platinum).

When flying on CX, you only get QF points for applicable fare types (as listed by Dave) and no status bonus points.

The Y on your boarding pass just means your were accommodated in the economy class cabin. The actual fare type paid is what determines the validity for points accural. It is extremely unusual to pay the full Y fare for international travel. LHR-SYD on a full Y fare would have cost over $6000, and possibly more.

The only way to know the actual fare class paid is to find out from the travel agent or look at the paper ticket. E-ticket receipts often don't show the fare basis.

In my experience, if your QF FF number is printed on the board pass, the posting of points is automatic and only gets lost if there is something strange with the fare class or similar. This can happen if you were upgraded (op-up, points, certs etc) and the fare type altered in the process, sometimes to a non-earning fare type.

Thanks for your responses.

BTW - i am flying Business Class ( my e-ticket says C-Class)

John

Then you should get the points for miles flown.

IF, however, you can change to a QF flight number, you will get miles flown, plus a 25% bonus for flying in Business Class. You will also get a status bonus (25% for Silver, 50% for Gold and 100% for Platinum) if this is appropriate to your membership level.

Dave

He still gets the 25% cabin bonus for flying business class on CX. Just won't get any FF Status Bonus for being a QF Silver (25%), Gold (50%) or Platinum (100%) member.

Are you sure?

Qantas website said:
9.2.5 A Cabin Class bonus will be applied to eligible Qantas Business and First Class fares. The Cabin Class bonuses will be applied to the base economy accrual rate and will be 25% for Business Class fares and 50% for First Class fares. Cabin Class bonuses, if any, will be credited according to the fare paid, not the cabin flown, and will not be credited for unpaid travel in, or unpaid upgrades to a higher class.

Nothing in the T&C's about cabin bonuses being applicable for other carriers, in fact it is quite specific that it is only "eligible Qantas Business and First Class fares."

Yes, you get the cabin bonus for all OneWorld flights. Not sure about other non-OW partners, but definately for all OneWorld flights. That is one advantage of booking the AA flight number on USA domestic flights instead of the QF flight number when using a DONEx. On a two-class AA flight, a DONEx is booked in A on the AA flight number and D on the QF codeshare. So the AA flight number earns F cabin bonus, and if over 2700 miles (eg SFO-BOS, DFW-ANC etc) you get more SC's as well.

Thought I would stop lurking and add my 20 Pesos.

On a couple of Aer Lingus flights recently, because they were booked over the internet, no points (or SC's) were credited, though my SG status was noted on the boarding pass. It even showed up in my Activity page on the QF web :? .

Welcome bravoecho1. What fare type were you booked in? Here is a quote from the QF FF program terms and conditions:
9.3.1
(a) Points cannot be earned on flights operated by Jetstar Airways or Australian Airlines, even where a Qantas flight number is entered on the ticket.
(b) In addition to the Eligible Flight requirements in clause 9.2.1, the following Fare types and route restrictions apply to the earning of Points on certain Frequent Flyer Partner Airline and oneworld Alliance Airline flights. Fares and routes listed are those which are not eligible for earning Points unless otherwise specified:

Aer Lingus: Discounted fares booked in E, G, I, L , R, S, T, W, and X class.
So if you are in any of those EI booking classes, then it no go for points, but would show the status on the BP as well as showing in the activity statement.

NM, fancy seeing you here...

You are spot on. In my haste to book the tickets, I took the easy option and did it on the internet. Then my TA advised that she could have booked me an unrestricted which would have given me points and SC's (thats the one that hurts) for the same price.

Ouch! That is a hard way to learn a lesson. But one you won't forget in a huryr :D .

I have just recieved a letter from QF that my flight from LHR-SYD in March did not qualify for points.

I am not happy and it was definately not the cheapest fare. I booked mine over the net, so it looks like i have the same problem as bravoecho1
did.

Do you think it is worth fighting?? Maybe if i keep pushing the might get sick of me and give me my points to get rid of me??

No, there is not much point in chasing it further with Qantas. If you purhcased a non-earning fare type, no matter how much you paid or how you purchased it, then there will not be any points.

The only exception to that may be if you had purchased it directly from Qantas and has specifically asked them to confirm that you would receive points and they had said yes. But otherwise Qantas is just upholding the FF program rules as they have been published.
