I'm exploring my options to buy a one way fare BNE-LAX next April. (I have a *A redemption for the return with NZ).

While I can do a *A SQ redemption via SIN it makes the trip > 22hrs whereas I can go direct in 10 hrs 20 minutes. On this trip I just want to get there in the shortest time. I'd even like ot avoid SYD as well as that also adds 4-5 hours to the total trip.

Exploring fare options I see QF will sell a one way fare for $2,000 (or a return fare for ~1,700!)

VA will do a direct one way for $992 on Economy V Deal.

Can anyone suggest any other options?

It would appear that V Australia and QF are the only 2 airlines to offer BNE-LAX direct.

Looking at Expedia and Zuji for other airlines with 1 stop we have Air China ~$980, Air Pacific ~$1,250 and Air New Zealand ~$1,350 while 2 stops there is Malaysian ~$1,210.

Not really going to get much better on a one-way airfare. There is also Delta, United and Air Canada via SYD but I am not sure of their airfares.

I really don't think you'll find better than the V Australia deal... And thinking about your requirements, I really think you should consider it!

Otherwise, oneWorld points to LAX may be a good idea.

Thanks JohnK & Mal, you are making sense.

There is a few days to run on the VA sale. I'll make a reasonable assumption that any QF sale wont be better than that. QF (from the booking engine behaviour) wants the direct BNE-LAX flights to be part of return bookings.

Have a look at ITAsoftware. Air Pacific have cheap flights from Sydney (Jetstar from Brisbane) at $650 one way if you can travel as late as April 23rd. Or even cheaper at $613 on the 25th with a 16h layover in Fiji!

That's an interesting site for checking fares. Unfortunately I have to travel early April but that AirPacific fare does look good.

My friends bought a US-AUS qantas return ticket and bought a Air Pacific ticket one way to LAX.

The BNE-NADI leg is on a 737-800 though, then you change to the 747.

If you purchase a return Y fare on ANZ, can you put your *A redemption towards an upgrade?

How are we doing BNE-LAX in 10:20?

Thanks for that ButFli....10:20 is the departure time. Trip time is 13h05.

My bad.

I have the return leg as a *A J redemption. ANZ are showing a Y seat available AKL-LAX (or SFO) and only J BNE-AKL. Even if I go with ANZ there wont be a J upgrade available across the Pacific. I can do a SQ J redemption via SIN but I'm thinking that by the time I board SIN-LAX I could already have landed in LAX on the direct BNE-LAX flight.

Staff and friends are saying VA is ok in Premium Economy BNE -LAX out of BNE.
Going BNE to SIN to get F thru Narita is something I would recommend doing once before the 747 is retired but it adds a lot of hours if it is a quick business trip.
MrsAlby would be impressed with pjs,KRUG and the lobster. Now that is a great use of points if you have time despite that feeling of going backwards!
V Australia seems to be getting it together for the quicker flight if you really just want a quick run.
Out of PER it is not a backwards run to get to LAX so we mix it up using both SQ and QF on one way bookings.

Yes, it is an experience that is worthwhile. Unfortunately they are operating SQ11/12 with A380 from ~26 March. To get a Saver from SIN to USA is now only via FRA.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone.
