I'll be coming back to Australia from USA mid-June 2016 after a cruise. Is there a way of getting a cheap one way fare with Qantas/AA?

Have you tried looking for a cheap airfare to HNL and then JQ from there.

Or possibly FJ all the way.

Another option could be an award booking.

googleflights is a reasonable starting point... looks like QF is charging around AUD1300 one way from USA to Australia. There are cheaper options such as Fiji Airways.

Thanks. I'll look into it, but I try to stay away from JQ. Bad experience last time arriving in Oz with Qantas. QF2 delayed in Dubai due to fog, missed connection in Sydney and they re-booked me on JQ to Cairns. Not allowed to check luggage through from Intl to Dom terminal. Bags onto bus to domestic, wait in line, get to counter, too early to check bags, back to T3 with bags, check through security to get to QC, bags back to T2 for check-in. 2 hours wasted due to QF/JQ lack of cooperation.
