One PNR three flights, luggage goes through ?

Looking at flying Cathay , KLM etc so a general question not airline specific, though all choices have two carriers at least .
Husband is looking at flying Sydney to Billund. Minimum three flights over and back.
For example two are Cathay one (Billund to London Leg) is on BA
Husband just checks his luggage in at Billund and he sees it back in Sydney ?

I was fairly certain but it will make such a difference to him as he usually rather exhausted at the end of his trip and the changeover at LHR really impacts horrifically.

My 2010 trip had HEL-LHR-DXB-LHR-HKG-NRT-SIN-PER-MEL over 3 days. No stops, all connections. AY-BA-BA-QF-CX-JL-QF-QF.
Due to ticketing and check through limits, my bag was checked in for the first sector, where it was then put into storage at the airport for the LHR-DXB-LHR legs, while AY issued boarding passes for the AY and BA sectors.
Upon taking my bag out of storage, QF checked everything through to NRT, then JL checked everything through to MEL.

It may also be dependant on interline agreements. I would suggest CX-BA is not an issue as both are OW. If using QF points to book as classic rewards remember that your husband will be flying under unique carrier codes and not codeshare. I am not familiar with all the QF partner arrangements which KL is. A TA or someone with access to the KVS tool may be able to check the current interline agreements.

I think its to do the number of sectors that can go onto the bag tag?

Seriously, though. Flights booked on the one ticket directly with an airline should be fine for the three sectors in the OP.
