So a little play on words here but I'm on the Seabourn Quest heading for Antarctica. I had hoped that I could do a live TR but the speed of the Internet (and the cost) on board isn't going to make that possible. I have been writing up my TR each day so when I get home I will be able to write it up reasonably quickly.

I only booked this trip three weeks before the cruise started and many of the people on board are seasoned Seabourn travellers (I've met some that have done about 15 Seabourn and 70 cruises all up).

We are now on two sea days having just left Ushuaia and one of the reasons that prompted me to start writing this is because we had to stay in Ushuaia an extra night because the Drake Passage forecast was for 8m waves and the captain didn't think that was a good idea. @Flying mermaid I thought of you when they were giving the forecast.

So the cruise I am on

It's the voyage 3 on the 2019/2020 Holiday Antarctica Patagonia & South Georgia. I will try and post a few good pictures when I can but it's just so painfully slow.

Ooh - that doesn’t sound pleasant! We did have a dream crossing both ways but were still unwell, so hate to think what that would be like. Enjoy your trip!

VPS I wonder whether Robin West is onboard. We sailed with him and his wife many times on the Silver Explorer. He went across to Seabourn to set up the operations for the Quest.he is now a VP of Seabourn but Expedition leaders have the sea in their blood and do try and get back on board as often as they can.
Also he was injured by a rogue wave hitting the bridge of the Explorer when heading back over the Drake Passage. He probably wouldn't have liked big seas on the Drake.

I haven't heard the name but will check out the staff list later. In the end the captain was right to delay us going across Drake Passage because it was almost a mill pond and I can't imagine 8m waves out here

I wish the internet was better but it's just painful to try and do much.

I just mentioned you in another thread. Our weather since you left has either been lovely or even cool. And it rained last night. But I think stepping onto Antarctica might trump that! Enjoy.

I have been watching the weather and thinking that February is going to be revoltingly hot but It has been absolutely awesome down here. Walking around again yesterday amongst the penguins and then out this morning on the zodiacs while it was snowing. I wish I could post more photos but it's just painful. I'm going to try and add a couple now and then might just wait until I get home

Just a few to keep everyone going - I've reduced them as much as I can - the second to bottom one is the chinstrap penguins and it was snowing so it does show up in the photos.

Did you end up managing to split the internet cost with other travellers? Assume that because it's satellite it's just very slow as they're not using a premium provider/technology?

Reading with interest. It’s a place I’ve always wanted to go. When you get back, can you write about your last minute booking for the cruise. Is it better then booking 6 months out. Did you get the boat that you wanted?

I ended up sucking it up and getting the package. You can only use one device at a time which is annoying and only a few of the photos are uploading to my iphone so I'm downloading onto computer every couple of days. Just did a speed test -whopping 0.36 MBS. It is satellite but apparently a lot of other cruise lines are doing away with outrageous internet prices. Apparently is Elon Musk gets his way there will be a lot more satellites and be a bit faster.

Will do and if I don't address it feel free to nudge me

I hope the weather clears up a bit better for you

On our last sea day today, Uruguay tomorrow then disembarking on Sunday morning - very sad and has been a wonderful trip and I have the TR all written ready to post but thousands of photos to go through. I'll be back in Adelaide on the 6th so @Pushka could you arrange a bit more of that cool weather please. Everyone is getting excited because it's getting warmer but not me

Very humid here today and A LOT of rain overnight. Many country places flooded. Rain in Adelaide around 40 mls+. Cooler for the next week once the front sweeps through later today.

Had a feeling you would love it. An amazing place. Looking forward to the TR proper.

It’s gone so quickly :(:):(

I know - last night was out to dinner came home and went to bed. The wardrobe doors have this dinky thing where when you open them the light comes on and theoretically when you close them the light goes off. Last night the light wouldn't go off and at midnight I had the staff trying to fix it and then got moved to another room which is literally 4 times the size but then took ages to get to sleep. Thankfully they are letting me stay in the new room because I have to be up before 5am tomorrow to get to the airport. I can't believe I let the travel agent do that. Never mind - I've had a wonderful trip and looking forward to coming home now. I think I'd enjoy BA more if it wasn't so warm and humid. The taxi home last night which dropped off another couple and was about a 10 minute drive cost me $4.20
