Zero for me as a plat but I have a 2 1/2 year old who has done MEL-OOL return 7 times in J since Xmas and gets everything he needs. The FA's swoon over him!

Welcome back Mr Le and Tran, so who is Mr Le and Mr Tran? ROw 3 to your right with Nice smile and that was it. Should I be expecting more? :/

To answer the original post, if I had a dollar for every time I heard "Welcome Back Mr R" when I step onboard and hand the crew my boarding pass, I'd be rich!

I'm guessing they are trained to say this, because every crew has said the same thing for years, even in the Virgin Blue days.

Apart from that, I've had the odd bottle of water thrown my way (back when you had to pay) or the occasional portable IFE or newspaper offered. But on domestic I don't really expect anything.

On the 777 however I've always received express passes, noise cancelling headsets and J drinks, even if in Y/Y+

Are you talking about the same airline here? Virgin Australia - VA, or DJ as they once were.

I have never heard anyhing from cabin crew even resembling the words "welcome back" or any recognition of being a regular customer or Platinum status.

As with the comments from maninblack I have only had a welcome back once in the last 6 flights DJ/VA are going down hill. I am Platinuim and fly majority in J.

recent Y flight from GC booked before the J class fitout rolled thru from BNE to NCL I boarded first and was given a nice welcome, was seated in row 3 but had a very fragile small package in a bag, I asked if there was room in J for it to fit in the overhead bins so it didn't get squashed if J wasn't full because the rest of the flight looked pretty packed and the senior cabin steward said he'd find somewhere safe for it, he parked it in the small bin in J class and it fitted perfectly and wasn't likely to get damaged there. There was a problem with my seat belt not locking, and he said to me, If you would like to move forward and sit in Business there is no problem, you are a platinum and fly with us regularly, but hubby worked it out and I said thankyou for the offer but i'd stay with him now it was working. I usually get greeted when I get on but usually am in J class, I think the staff are a cut above Qantas, happy and smiling and helpful, which is why i've moved everything I can to Virgin, too many grumpy people there and my last BKK flight with them in Dec was awful both ways, just wish there was a direct flight there with Virgin I could get on from Syd or Melb.

On Q12 LAX-SYD on Sunday had a spare seat next to me and continuous offers of drinks, coffee. Business headphones express arrivals card all from 2 different guys, one the CSM can't remember the other guy's title. Highest level of recognition ever received by me when flying Y.

That's odd.

I *always* get a welcome back.

Once upon a time it was "Welcome back Shaun", and now it's "Welcome back Mr Ewing" but apart from that it has been very consistent.

Except I'm pretty sure this is a thread about VA :)

I get it upon boarding when they look at my boarding pass. That's the end of the story though.

I usually get 'Welcome back..... *pause* Firstname" as they're not savvy enough to pronounce my last name (which, is pronounced as it's spelled, at least in Australia).

I specifically ignored the welcome back when first getting on the aircraft. Everyone gets that and consistently so. As such it doesn't count, because it's standard fare.

What everybody else has said, I've heard it two years ago, two weeks ago and may times in between.

Has anyone else noticed if domestic business class meal orders are being taken in order of status? (But always delivered front to back, though.) I first noticed this last month, when I didn't sit in row 1, the CS made a bee-line for me to take my order then back to row 1. (At first I thought it was a version of AA's FEBO, but that doesn't seem to be the case, as it follows me around the aircraft.) It has now happened a number of times since, so I am assuming that it is status based order taking. :?:

LOL, I get it the other way around... hand over boarding pass... then long *pause* as they study it (probably deciding if they can attempt a pronunciation), then they generally give in, and decide simply on "welcome back" *pause* then "oh, and welcome to business class".

I swapped back from Qantas to Virgin in feb - and received a 'welcome back' then and every time since - even though it was 3+ years since i had previously flown with them....

I have not observed this on my my recent J flights, which is somewhat annoying. I would like to see VA implement this policy for all services, its a nice bonus for Plats/Golds to ensure they get to choose meals first.

I don't think J counts either. The true test is when you have status and are not flying J. Whether you have status or not your paying for a certain level of service in J so isn't really indicative of status recognition.

At first I didn't agree with this but thinking now, yes I do! I got caught out the other week and was a bit annoyed.

VA 1594 NTL - MLB got welcome back MS HG, lovely attendant, offered the hokkien noodles or the cheese platter, took the cheese platter and noticed its gone from two to three kinds of cheese, nice full glass of wine which if I'd had all of it I'm sure I would have been over the limit so was good and left half. Bags off in first half dozen quick exit, great flight.
