Interesting observation, well I think. Just boarded a flight from lax to Mel qf 96 I think, anyway being a WP I look. Forward to my greeting (I know a bit wanky).
I have realize a querk in the Qantas system that I think QF should address.

I booked the flights as a QF WP, and as I am doing a AA challenge I changed my FF account at check in to AA acct, which is a ruby status,
but interestingly the CSM had no idea who I was on the plane, now as a ruby I would not expect a greeting but as an actual WP would it not be prudent for Qantas to know why I'm not using QF acct , just to make sure I'm still happy, or something did not happen
Just a thought that QF might be missing opportunities due to a software shortcoming
I spoke with the CSM and her ipad gets updates 5 mins before boarding. Surely they can be made aware

Isn't there some marketing law that says it is far cheaper to keep a customer than find a new one, why would they miss this???

No they don't know. If your booking doesn't carry your QFF number then all they see is your OW status and they know nothing more. The system does not link your name to your QFF number if it's not in the res. I have quite liked it in the past as it means the cabin crew don't make too much meaningless small talk with me. CSM usually pays a visit at some point and bumbles some words about something. QF are ultimately only really interested in WP's, everyone else is a kind of nobody, even LTG's but they are deferential to other OWE's.

Well actually my booking was a WP, but they still don't see that, my status gets me into their F lounge but the important area, onboard, has no idea,

The manifest is likely to show what you checked in as, which is a OWR. The fact that you booked as a WP should mean nothing.

There are ways around this with FQTV and FQTS but that's a different ball game altogether finding an agent that can get it done properly.

To answer your question, there already is a system in place to credit to one airline and have status of another appear and recognised. Now whether airlines should make it easier for pax to do this is a different question altogether. At the end of the day QF has done right by recognising the status that you are flying under (and without playing with FQTV and FQTS that was your AA status).

Couple of things. I just learned the benefits of changing the FF program and number on a couple of AA Australian domestic award tickets. Amazing how much further forward in the aircraft a QF SG can get than an AA OW Ruby.

With respect to greetings, I was surprised by a greeting as a newly minted CX GO (OW Sapphire) as one of the cabin managers stopped by to say hello. Perhaps because the PEY cabin had a higher load factor than Y and I was the only CX status person in the PEY cabin (HKG-MEL).

Happy wandering

Fred

This is the thread kill TBH.

So should they all memorise the faces of wp's?

Clearly you did not understand
I was not caring about the greeting or concerned about my status, if I was I would have flown under my WP, I was actually thinking of the airline and maybe a missed opportunity.

You cannot do this yourself and I believe that it is QF policy not to allow this when booking through them though they can technically do it. I have tried to request it without any luck, have others succeeded? I believe that unless you book through a TA who can do this on the GDS it isn't really available. TA's can also put in different FF numbers for different legs on the same PNR which you cannot really do yourself.

I just do it at check in for each leg, or maybe your meaning something else, ?

The Flounge gave you access not because you originally booked as a WP & once upon a time had your QF WP ffn in the booking but because your AA (non OWE) ffn was in the pnr & you showed your WP card at the Flounge reception.

Maybe you could show your WP to the F/A's as they wheel the trolley down the aisle so they know who you are.

Oh FFS, really I can't be bothered with this cough

I do get what you mean. QF should be checking up on you to see why you're appearing to be moving away from the program. I wouldn't expect that to happen onboard, but if they were smart enough something would pick up the discrepancy in the coming weeks and then they could potentially contact you. But it sure ain't going to be as instant as onboard.

I don't get why members get uppity if there is a different point of view. I will stick up for OBB here as someone who has the experience from both perspectives.

The onboard greeting is cringe worthy and adds no value for me (when I was WP anyway), the FAs have enough to do as it is than bothering with this - by all means take more care of high spending customers but do it when there's a reason for having contact with them (eg during meal service) giving them better service rather than the all the fake airs and graces that really are little more than showing off in front of other pax.

There was no sides or points made. I had an observation and an idea that might help QF, and aff members thought that gives licence to have a shot at another member
