I was on QF660 ADL-BNE this morning when the FO came over the radio and told us all the good work getting to BNE early had been undone by an ATC request to enter a holding pattern. About 2 minutes later the cabin crew asked if there were any doctors or nurses on the flight. After a brief Flying High feeling I realised the holding pattern was canned and we were in a rush to land. As we touched down I saw 4 jets lined up to take off so for all the wrong reasons I was on a high priority landing.

When we got to the gate we were told to stay in our seats to let the paramedics on and as they attended to the stricken passenger we were told to wait a bit longer do they could get a gurney aboard. I was in row 6 so I have no idea what was going on but a piece of equipment was brought on by one of the ambos and the passenger must have been moved to the rear of the plane because we were told we could leave.

That was a first for me and despite a desire to find out what was going on I decided to respect the poor persons privacy, but no doubt others didn't.

I sort of feel guilty for selfishly being somewhat pleased it happened late in the flight and we didn't get diverted because I had a meeting in Brisbane and one on the Gold Coast and a flight home at 3.45pm so couldn't afford any timing hiccups.

I hope the person is ok.

For info, the holding had finished for that flight but you did jump up one in the queue and came in for a visual approach which is not normal for that flight.

Also hope the person is ok

Sounds like you work at or close to BNE ATC?

Thanks for the welcome, yes, BN ATC.

Processed that particular flight this morning.

Small world indeed... although people working in the aviation industry are definitely welcome to post. :)
