Its not what people want to see (only the focus of ACCC holding down petrol for cars at the moment)
Either way 80 is the unrefined price so unless airlines ar fully hedged (even if they are) it looks on the cards for more price increases (Fines/Fares whatever..you'll pay more) as the airline push to maintain their margins

Somewhere along the line, the airlines will have to get to realise that the price is never going to return to whatever they base their ticket prices on, and just incorporate, at least some of the high prices, into the base ticket. This has been going on for so long now, they should have adjusted their operational costings to cope with it, instead of this surcharge garbage.

Is there anyway we can convince the airlines to incorporate fuel prices into their base airfares?

True, but I have a feeling that fuel surcharges will be increasing again very shortly....

So if I have a fully paid for overseas flight for next year (Jan-Feb) is Qantas able to apply a fuel fine or am I safe?

They already would have applied one. However, when they do increase/decrease it is normally for bookings from a particular date, so unlikely you will be affected.
