HI All

Flying Hobart to Melbourne on Tuesday night at 9:50pm. It’s only about an hour, and it’ll be my first Virgin flight in quite a while. I booked three seats using Velocity points.
Over the last few days I’ve had two emails asking me to bid for an upgrade. I pretty much ignored them because I couldn’t see much value in upgrading for a one-hour flight.
I thought a 9:50pm flight would be pretty quiet, but it actually looks close to 90% full. I’m guessing the Victorian long weekend probably has something to do with that.
I also didn’t realise until afterwards that Hobart doesn’t have a Velocity Lounge, which makes an upgrade on this route seem even less useful.

Does Virgin basically send these upgrade bid emails to everyone who’s eligible? Or does getting them indicate that they actually have quite a few Business seats available?

Yep even on flights where J is full they still send out bid requests.

Often the minimum bid is about $55 which would be worth it given the better seat with more legroom, a quick meal plus some drinks.
