Departing for LAX this thursday... booked in Y+ on NZ's new 773...

Applied for the standby upgrade to BP....(natch)

Needed to check a detail on my "MyAirNZ" page today.. and noticed my AKL-LAX flight had changed from Y+ to BP...;)

....MORE than 72 hours out.. which in theory (and as stated online) is earlier than it should have done...

Think I really care about that admin detail?:mrgreen:

Ah... seat 7K here I come....

It is terribly relaxing to have this happen..... and avoid the check-in/lounge/gate lotto process.... Obviously Feb ain't the peak time to LAX.. but happy even so!

Well done Trooper! I have really enjoyed my AirNZ flights-haven't sat in 7K or anywhere near the front-let us know how it goes.

Will do...

The Biz Premier seats haven't changed a huge amount with the new product.. BUT they have a new extra 5cm thick mattress which should make a difference!

Will do up a short trip report....

Yes, good luck to you.

As for their recent changes, it's just a huge joke imho.

I used to think NZ were OK, but I wouldn't put my hard earned cash their way now.

Much prefer Emirates (I'm EK Gold).

As an Aussie based customer the new changes don't affect me that much. ANY fare to the USA (my usual travel) books into "Works" for the Trans Tasman.. and as a Gold (my profile is out of date.. sorry!) I get an excellent seat selection choice...so except for the sad loss of the old Space + product it is still the same...(food/AVOD etc)

..and of course it is a short flight. Sure, where possible I try to get the 767 flights (and nab seat 10A or B) but 3 hours on an A320 is really not a strain....

I will be VERY interested to see how the new Y+ feels to ME.. as the reports so far have been extremely mixed!!

Now that my UG has cleared (selfish dog I am ) I am crossing my fingers that the UG from Y to Y+ I have sponsored a friend for will also clear... and I'll see what she thinks of that... and of course I might be in Y+ on the return... we'll have to wait and see....;)

NZ.. and their very quirky FF program just happen to work for me..... so I'll stick with them.

I don't think the reports are that mixed; for anyone 180cm or more in height it appears one is forced to shape themselves like a boomerang if trying to stretch out during the 12/13 hour flight.

ANZ NEW Premium Economy seating review? - FlyerTalk Forums

Well done on the upgrade; last month I graced 1A and 5J ...

True... but as a shortar$e myself it may turn out to be a decent product ...for little ol' me at least.. Be interesting to see if/when/how often one might be able to snaffle 23D or E too.... Time will tell.

As for BP I am especially interested in 1A as I have that for the trip after this one... I think you reported on FT that there wasn't excessive light from the galley.. right?

Was the food noticeably "different" with the new galley arrangements? (I don't think I've seen any real comments about that yet...)

TIA!

The food philosophy quite different; they tried to sell it to order what and when you like, however since my process is to watch a movie while having dinner, sleep for 8 hours or so, then breakfast and prepare for landing I simply used the more 'traditional ' times.

I think I'll do much the same...

The "normal" meal service has always suited me too.....

Although I do tend to be up at least once during the "night" so this open kitchen might prove interesting too...

Only thing is... if they have Do have Pizza back in Y+ I'll be sorely tempted to see if I can get one of those..

(Pizza.... Mmmmmmmmmm)

A few quick comments...

Was upgraded both ways as it turned out... with 12B in the smaller rear BP cabin on the way back. Even though that seat is in theory very close to the bassinet positions in Y+ (2 of which were in use) I only heard the babies during boarding.

My friend was upgraded to Y+ both ways ... and was quite enamoured of the D seats...(She is NOT a tall woman)

23B was free coming back - and looked to be a great choice.... but my friend declined the chance to move there due to the bassinets.... probably a good call...;).. but I have to say the available space for that seat seems very generous indeed...

Food service was the old style on the way over... new style on the way back. Good in both instances. After the "sampler" meal I was still unable to have a pizza later on.... Bugger! I just don't have the capacity to eat a lot...

Cabin crew coming home were even better than usual... very impressed.

Slept 4 hours straight both ways on that marvellous new mattress... might not sound too impressive but I rarely manage that even in my OWN bed! So a big thumbs up for that.

The meal service IS slower with the new style... I don't mind but I suspect some will find it irritating...

A 2 month old aircraft is a delight..... right down to the "new" smell...:D
