Actually, many credit cards (and travel insurance policies) exclude losses incurred by companies going under. In fact the list of exclusions is so long these days that I begin to wonder what you *are* insured for.I know someone who lost her Oasis flight and couldn't get a cheap Cathay flight since she was flying outside the two week time window that Cathay was offering. She couldn't get anything from either her credit card or travel insurance.
UK credit cards have to offer this protection. I don't know about AU ones though. Agreed on the travel insurance - always pays to read the fine print. For instance, hardly anyone insures against missed connections (differing PNR's with no protection by the airline) there was a thread on AFF about that last year. Some travel insurance policies are blatant ripoffs.
