NZ to end QF codeshares

(Main thread - Virgin Australia and Air NZ form new partnership - this thread is about QF's plan for NZd after this deal ends).

The ACCC agreement says NZ will end its codeshare agreement with QF if it's approved; I guess that doesn't necessarily mean QF can't continue to codeshare unilaterally on NZ domestic, or perhaps it's just happy to sell NZ codes.

Perhaps QF's expansion into AKL has soured the relationship.

I wonder if this means more JQ NZ?

In the end, they, (QF) still have JQNZd.
Its more so that VAi does not have any NZ airlines prior to their current agreement with AirNZ.
Realistically, I think that QF would be happier (financially), if all pax are feeded onto JQNZd, rather than AirNZ, as then all the revenue is kept in the QF fold, ie, no profit sharing with AirNZ.
As VAi does not have a NZ partner apart from the newly set up AirNZ one, maybe its fair.

This wouldn't be a huge loss given how expensive the QF/NZ coded flights are to most places.

I also can't see them reintroducing JQ to regional cities as they tried that experiment and it failed.

They would (most likely, (pure speculation)), put pax into AKL, and use JQNZd to move people to CHC/WLG/ZQN.

OffT: tho must say, its pity that Koru$ has a life of 4 years, its a very limiting term, did try to use it off set Aus - NZ fare, but the system would not allow it.
Bal of $130 or so NZ worth of Koru$, and I can only use it for seat selection on the 787.
Cant use it to off set fare.

Currently the main CHC/WLG/ZQN to AKL flights operated by NZ but coded by QF are crazy priced and my guess is this is on purpose to keep people on QF metal with direct flights into those ports. The main benefit of the QF/NZ codes are smaller regional ports which they'd lose but I don't think that many book on them.

I've twice flown on QF coded NZ operated flights and whilst the Air NZ lounge staff are aware it didn't appear to be super common.

Whilst not codeshare dependent, I wonder if this will also impact redemptions on NZ. That would be a shame.
