NZ potential job losses & LHR in doubt

Pity ANZ are in financial pressure. Have never travelled with them but all you AFFers who have give them high praise.

Seems they are the only or rare 'western' airline that is in the high ballpark in terms of product and service as the leading Asian carriers.

I think we will see NZ dropping the HKG-LHR sector in favour of a codeshare on VS for that service. Id also expect VS to pick up the slots (or borrow from NZ) to commence the 2nd HKG again.

Agree QF are wasting a good product on riffraff.
It's just a reflection of where QF sees the future of the structure of the airline. A few high volume routes served by QANTAS International with A380s (probably SYD/MEL/BNE-LAX and SYD/MEL-SIN-LHR) and everything else will be operated by JetStar.

Back to the topic at hand though. I'd be sorry to see AirNZ stop operating LHR entirely, but I suspect that they'll still operate it in one direction (probably LAX unfortunately) and then either sell the older 747s that they currently use for that route to buy more 777-300ERs or 787, or they might retask the 747s, and use them on newer more profitable routes. Interesting times...
