I love wasabi (mmm grated fresh wasabi over soba noodles) and anything spicy

EXCEPT wasabi peas which are an abomination

In the age of nut allergies I'm surprised they serve peanuts (or any nuts) at all.

mrsdoc and I almost screamed "no" in unison when handed a pack of nuts in J last flight (mindoc is allergic).

New Zealand is I believe the only place in the world where you can buy pure 100% wasabi paste etc made from real wasabi.

Below a helpful link.

Thanks for the link.
In Narita airport I was handed a wasabi root and a grater. I believe you can obtain proper paste in Japan. The high-end restaurateurs in places like Kyoto would not I believe serve mustard-horseradish concoctions. The plant at Narita may have been from New Zealand though!

There is an Australian grower:

Welcome to Pure Wasabi by Coppersfolly
Sorry as I said Tasmania has a thriving wasabi growing industry-
Shima Wasabi
Tasmanian Wasabi
Tasmanian wasabi | Matthew and Jessica Marston | Westbury | Tasmania

And as I said Tetsuya uses Tasmanian wasabi-
Products | Tetsuyas T-Too

And now to wasabi peas-served up on my Qlink flight to DPO tonight. So combined with the spicy beef, beans and chick peas at the QP I had a nice little tail wind crossing the tarmac at DPO.

Sorry Drron. What I meant was the NZ wasabi paste was allegedly the only 100% pure. Ie. no additives.
Not that wasabi didn't grow anywhere else commercially.
The shima site was interesting. They make a powder as well as supplying fresh.

I think Docjames point is interesting.

Should airlines be allowed to serve nuts due to the severity of people's reaction?

Should the special meal section on the websites include nut free options?

It seems that there are schools put there who ban kids from bringing nuts to school, should airlines be the same?

Schools ban things to take into account the fact children are still developing their decision making skills, lets hope most travellers dont have the same issue. I am not in favor of dumbing down the catering selection given what is on offer is sealed in the first place and well labelled.

The courts in Canada do not particularly agree with you Markis!

Luckily I do not live in Canada (or LOTFAP )! I should add my fridge has a couple of EpiPens in it ;), so my comments are hardly from one who is naive to the issue of living with Allegies.

Department of Education schools don't actually ban nuts. There can be "nut-free" schools which means that parents and students are STONGLY encouraged not to have any type of nuts in food, but you can't actually take a child's lunch from them if it does contain nuts because someone is allergic...

This is true for QLD.....my kids school is not a nut free zone.

I picked up one of my kids from the school sick-room recently & was amazed by the amount of stock of the life saving needles/device they are holding for individual kids:shock: Some of the larger schools must be like mini chemists!

You should see the kids list of allergies, I was amazed how many at one school could not handle band aids!

Thread tangent syndrome rears again.... Interesting topic though :D

Roast Almonds and Wasabi Peas in J and F on my QF flight to LHR. Mighty fine......but those Wasabi peas are going to catch a few folk off guard!!

Had some of the myself, Y on a Dash-8 :p and was funny watching the oldies around me avoiding the wasabi peas :D
