I've been a negative sort of chap of late, particularly with QF and Europcar, so taking a leaf out of the Danny Baker book of fighting fate I feel it is time to say those immortal words "Nothing can go wrong now."

By my standards i have had an extraordinary 24 hours of travel. It all started with my stay at the Holiday Inn at Melbourne airport where I was upgraded to a King Room on the top floor and given a 500 point priority club rewards voucher. :D

This morning I was able to cross the road from the HI to the short term car park without breaking stride, waltz through the QF priority security lane, and march unhindered into the QP and then the J lounge. I was first in line at the barista for a skinny cappuccino too, just after the lovely lady on the service desk checked me in to my bulkhead seat. :D

Priority boarding worked. Yes let me just say that again, priority boarding worked. We left on time and arrived in Sydney on schedule.

I had booked an A4 for the day with Europcar and expected to get a Skoda.......but no! A shiny brand new E250 awaited me. :D

My business meeting ended early and after a pleasant drive back to SYD, although I couldn't get the bluetooth thing working with my phone, I once again sailed through security to the J lounge.

I and my two colleagues (A PS and an SG) were all on Red-e-Deals and all on different PNR's with one heading to a completely different destination. The nice chap at the service desk got us all onto earlier flights (catering not assured though)....what's more my platinum shadow accompanied me. :D

Priority boarding worked again......just in case you are incredulous, priority boarding worked again! :D

Catering, a cookie and a bottle of water, was fortunately assured, but half way through the flight the CSM, thoroughly delightful lady, stopped by to make sure I'd been fed, acknowledged I flew quite a lot with QF and asked if there was anything she should get me. All done without having to hold the manifest and read it. It came across as very genuine, and whilst I didn't take the offer up of anything else it did make me feel valued. (MrsH says I am special, but I'm not sure she means that in a complimentary way...but that is a whole other story!)

The flight landed on time and I found myself on Melbourne's relatively empty freeways and tollways. Yes relatively empty. I raced through the Burnley Tunnel, left Chadstone behind me and reached home before 5:00 PM.

So fate, I stare you in the face and challenge you. I have beaten you. Nothing can go wrong now! In fact I am returning to Sydney later in the week, so I challenge you to do your worst......and I will beat you again!

johnk, I say to you especially, stand up to that cruel mistress fate and challenge her.

Now if I had a day like that I would be very worried about tomorrow, next week, next month.........

Departed the St.Kilda Rd office at 5:17 on the dot for my 12 minute walk to Prahran Station. Crossing St. Kilda road I espyed a number 6 tram stopped at Moubray St - beauty I thought, jumped on that `5:20 and was getting off it at Prahran (LaTrobe st) 4 minutes later - walked up to the station.

As I arrived at the citybound platform a train pulled in; hopped on that and off it JUST 2 minutes later at South Yarra station. i looked across from Platform 2 to Platform 4 and next Frankston express was due in three minutes. Up the ramp, squeezed past the crowd of coughmuters considering dimmies, chips or other delicacies at the in-station fast food shop and down.

Arrive at the platform 5:29 as the train pulled and and was out at my station 40 minutes later on time at 6:08.

Walked in front door 6:15 - that's a record since office moved from CBD 5 months ago.

Some times it just works!

If you promise not to tell JohnK I have had that same smooth run sometimes for year or two at a time and I don't even have a travel lucky charm.
In London last week we scored a Fast Track pass and 15 minutes later our driver had us out of that Heathrow terminal. There were 6 in that Fast Track line and two staff processing us. WOW!

Seems like a very easy day and none of the usual bump grind of captial city travel/air travel

Positive mindset always helps TonyHancock we know Johnk doesn't have one.

Is this post an advert for Honda Accord.:p

Anyway I thought you only just moved, unless you didn't move very far.

Your last move was Feb 2009, so I am surprised you moved so soon.

PB worked on QF400 today
4A, and Platinum shadow on said flight.
Greeted by a rather delightful CSM. (She didn't even need to read my name from the manifest!!!:p)
Fastest transfer I have ever had Dom to Int at Sydney
Straight through Customs and Immigration
Window table reserved and waiting in the F lounge. (Thank you simongr)
F Lounge virtually empty.

Nothing can go wrong now!!!

You hit Melbourne's empty freeways at 4ish?? Was it a Sunday? ;)

You were very lucky to get a run home like that.

The only thing to add is that my wife and I stayed at the Holiday Inn (it had another name) on our wedding night 40 years ago next month before heading off to Fiji on our honeymoon. I plan to stay there on our anniversary before heading off somewhere or other.

Waving at you from the beach Tony! Enjoy your trip

This thread reminded me of a snow storm in New York that stopped all flights.
Of course our flight was the last one cancelled so we were transported to a roach motel and I felt lucky to have a pair of shoes to use to crunch the crawlers.
After that night I can have low expectations and feel happy no matter what.
I just wish I had been a photo taker.....I think there was an adjacent roach farm but I did not go looking for it.

Very nice. Keep it up.

If I had a like yours I would be dreaming and even then it would be miserable.

johnk, I say to you especially, stand up to that cruel mistress fate and challenge her.
I did and got a slap on the face. :p

Very good. I hope your run continues.

If I had a day like that I would be dreaming or worse still the end of humanity as we know it.

johnk, I say to you especially, stand up to that cruel mistress fate and challenge her.
I did and got slapped in the face. :p

But that is OK as I want my life to be challenging in every possible way....

We have a slightly different expectation index. My expectations are met if I discover upon arrival that I am still alive.
