My son is trying to go on AA or US Air using his USAir Dividend Miles but twice he has been told there is nothing they can book him on in First. Both web sites show availability from Rio to LAX
What should he do to avoid about 15 hours flying in economy?
He has plenty of US Air miles and zero AA miles but his AA account has been open for 14 days now.

I have looked at my AA account. There are no milesAAver F awards in May,june or July. There is a J milesAAver award on 19/5 and 3/8.
There are anytime awards in J and F but I guess using his US account he would have to ring.

PS the Anytime awards are via MIA or JFK.

PPs-also checked flights from LIM and EZE.Again nothing. The World Cup is obviously popular.

Thinks drron. He will try Any Time seating thru Miami.
Otherwise he can do a big Y run.

He is now booked Rio thru Miami to Los Angeles with a 2 hour layover in Miami on AA points.
He could not use US AIR miles nor could he use Saver on AA so it became an Any Time seat on AA in Business Class.
The credit card ended up being my US Amex Premier Rewards card for the $50 US fee and my AA miles stash has been depleted by 100K.
I think the lack of Saver seats on AA during the 2014 Soccer World Cup is because they plan to sell the seats for the highest possible price.
Thank you drron for the excellent hints as I felt the level of difficulty on this one was up towards a 10 out of 10 (maybe a 9.5).
