Hi all,

Not sure where to post this or if its been answered before.

I need to book a flight before Xmas.

I looked at a direct route with QFF. cost 609 dollars. Perth - Sydney

Then looked at multi city. Perth, Sydney - Canberra, Same flight number and same day etc for Sydney leg. Total cost $349

Please explain? Also if I dont take the Canberra flight, what problems will it cause?

It shouldn't cause any problems as long as you don't have checked luggage.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If you don't take the CBR flight Qantas have the right to re-assess your fare as PER-SYD and charge the extra.

However, it seems that such rarely happens (I have come across no anecdotes of it occurring).

I think/thought American carriers have clauses in the T&C's for re-assessment, but I couldn't find the same clause in the conditions of carriage for Qantas.

You could even argue (probably not successfully) that you didn't use your whole ticket and you wanted a refund for the SYD-CBR sector ahaha. Probably wouldn't want to push it though.

Anyone have ideas about whether you can just send your luggage to the first stop? I thought I'd heard a few anecdotes about that - just say you have to pick up something in Sydney and you'll re-check it..

You can ask for your baggage to be checked to SYD as you will need to access it for a meeting at the airport

Thanks for the comments.

I cant understand how they can offer the same flight cheaper with a extra leg?

I might go to Canberra, but dont need any more SC this year, Im WP with end of Dec being my refresh date.

Just out of interest, would a plan to do this result if your name being called for failure to board the SYD-CBR leg and potentially delay the aircraft?
