Not all EK destinations in Africa have QF flight numbers.

I wouldn't know who to ask but these flights are still not available for sale through the QF website and still going through JNB. What is going on?

Over the weekend I did my usual SYD-Nairobi search via emirates and travel website. Previously travel came up with a QF codeshare option although at double the emirates price. And the EK site gave you the option of booking on QF metal to Dubai. Now on travel there is only an emirates option ( or going to London and then coming back on BA) and the EK site only has EK metal for both legs. So I suppose they are now consistent with the Qantas site? However doesn't seem to fit in with supposed QF code shares to Africa. sigh - who knows. Maybe it is a sign that Qantas is busy working out its pricing and code shares will appear on Qantas site as well?

I made by fortnightly call to QANTAS last night as I was also getting inconsistent results across sites. I'm trying to book CNS - NBO and do not want to go through Jo'burg. The agent told me the following:

1. You can now book to Cairo on Qantas via Dubai. The price was still just over $3000, but better than $5000 which is what they could previously quote to Africa.
2. With regard to Nairobi, QF *could* be trying to protect the revenue of the Kenyan airways JHB - NBO flight. When I challenged this saying that they are eliminating northern hemisphere routes, he said that they still can book the BKK flight to NBO on Kenyan airways (this contradicts previous advice I received regarding that flight)
3. QF have folks working 'feverishly' around the clock to sort out the arrangements. He said this twice.

Point 2 above has totally discouraged me as I have watched the price of the flight via Jo'burg continue to rise over the past couple of months. I'm really hoping that point 3 above trumps it.

Another interesting thing to note is that if you book using points, you can get the routing from CNS to NBO via Dubai. However, they cannot sell me that route without charging the full fare and the QF website won't even bring up that option when searching for paid flights. I really don't want to use points as I need this trip to maintain my status.

The agent definitely gave me the impression to hang in there and wait it out, but of course couldn't use those exact words.

Thanks for the update - fortunately I have more time than you to wait :) However being obsessively organised I would like to be able to set a budget now..... I am really thinking EK is going to be the way to go - not that fussed with WP status and I will keep SG with domestic flights.

Not sure if this is relevant, but in one of the interviews on April 1 with the official introduction of the alliance, it was either Joyce or his EK counterpart that said to the effect "QF and EK wil now be working very hard to harmonise their fares".

At the time I thought 'surely you have been doing that in anticipation', but maybe it would have been forbidden 'collusion' until the official go-ahead was given.

SO I would take this as meaning point 3 and your last sentence applies.

Hallelujah!!

Just done my daily check and tonight is the first night that EK options appear for NBO, no more routing through JNB. Still not quite there though as there are only EK codes for the DXB-NBO legs but hopefully QF codes will appear in due course.

Looks like just under $9k for J return flights SYD-NBO but beware, there are a lot of ! stating that the flight from DXB-NBO will be in Y.

On that basis, I will be keeping my eyes peeled for an imminent sale!! :)

The QF/EK Africa frustrations continue! It is basically status quo from my last post 3 weeks ago, still no QF codeshares.

Arghhhh! I rarely get frustrated with you QF but you are trying my patience with this one.

Additionally, can anyone confirm if Africa flights in J are now "aligned" or is this still to be finalised? I believe they are but the $'s are strange. On the dates we want to book SYD-DXB in J it is the same price as SYD-DXB-NBO in J, effectively giving the DXB-NBO flights for free! I am keen to book but was hoping to get the QF flight numbers for the SC's and wondering if alignment is still to occur if it will hike the prices up meaning expensive SC's??

Come on Red Roo!!!!

I have just arrived in LOS and had a 8 hour stopover at DXB while waiting from my EK DXB-LOS flight. There is no codeshare flight number on the LOS flights, but there is for some other African destinations - I was going to take a photo of the departures board in the EK Flounge to show the QF flight numbers, but didn't I'm afraid.

I thought it was strange that there is a QF flight number for the DXB-ACC-ABJ flight which is one that I would have thought would have a lot less demand.

I checked the official QF route map(Route Maps | Qantas) and it shows only two ex-DXB African distinations (ACC and NBO) - neither of which are marked as codeshares (in green) but rather as "Other Airline" in grey

Cheers dot. Interesting re the route map as I picked up a QF mag on the 1st April and all African destinations were green for EK. I wonder who this 'other airline' is that flies from Dubai to Nairobi?

My frustration is there appears to be no first option Nairobi. Booking via Qantas there is only Y and J and prices are just silly and no code share Dubai to Nairobi. Booking via Emirates I can get F for a bit over 11000, so I thought maybe I could book Qantas F to Dubai and then Emirates to Nairobi. However that would cost around 17,000. In fact it costs more to go F SYD Dubai (booking via either carrier) than it does to go Sydney London! Not sure I understand the pricing.....Hopefully it might get sorted out by next year, but I really think I will just book with Emirates - simpler, cheaper and I still get some points. I would like to book on Emirates metal one way and Qantas the other to do a comparison on the Sydney Dubai legs.

Indeed, I grabed a copy of the March and the April magazines so that I had a comparison of the route changes and yes, in the April (and May) magazine it is green DXB-NBO - but the online map doesnt represent that at all - the 'other airline' is EK btw, but the grey colouring indicates to me that there is no codeshare on those routes despite me knowing that there is on DXB-ACC at least. On EF, I can see DXB-AXX-ABJ with QF numbers, but not DXB-NBO or DXB-DAR or DXB-DKR or any other DXB African combinations I can think of...

Conducted another check this evening and would you believe it QF codes have appeared to Nairobi!!

No 'Business Saver' fares available with QF codes between DXB and NBO but 'Business' fares available and generally around $200 less with a QF code as opposed to an EK code. I'm not convinced about the $9.5k per person fare though.

Now I want to see 'Business Sale' fares appear. Am I asking for too much? :D

Of course not - the greed of FFs should know no bounds when it comes to sales :)
