These comments may be "old news" for some but I was able to put NordVPN to good use this week so some may be interested in the story.................

No. 2 son was robbed of cash, 2 credit cards, iPhone etc in Mexico recently. He did have a spare CC but 2 days ago ran into trouble booking UA flights from CUN - IAH - SEA because he was unable to receive a verification code for the CC transaction. So he contacted me to make the booking for him.

Searching online he was able to see that UA had these flights priced at $AUD218 but when I searched UA and Skyscanner the identical flights were $AUD460 - 507. Skyscanner did have some cheap flights through other transit cities but these all had much longer overall travel times. Obviously there was a big difference between accessing the UA website from Nth. Americal or Oz.

So I changed the NordVPN server I was using to one in the USA. UA then thought I was accessing their website from the USA and I was able to book the flights at the $AUD218 my son had seen. Apart from overcoming this particular problem, it also highlighted the price gouging one can face when booking OS flights from Oz.

While it is rare, there are reports that the passenger will be asked to show the original credit card at check-in for United flights. Booking through a third party often removes this requirement. If your son hasn't already flown you might make enquiries about how to get around any potential issues.

I saw the link about Nord VPN - I've been using Zenmate mainly to get UK TV and having awful problems with it so think I'm going to sign up to the Nord deal - are their any issues you have with Nord?

I have been using Nord for a number of years and am very happy with the service. Just renewed at a good discount, it's just a shame I didn't know about the Shopback promo. I could have signed up with a different email address.

+1 for NordVPN. Have been using for years with no complaints.
