Hey guys, did a search and couldnt find an actual answer.

Was wondering if...

1. Anyone has actually done it and what were the consequences.
2. Has anyone cancelled the return leg and got some credit for it (fee is $200 for re issuing with the credit)
3. Does the credit have to be used from point of departure of the previous fare from which the credit was derived?

Thanks for your wisdom :)

I wanted to be eligible for an upgrade and had to book flights with the following routing: AKL-SYD-x-MEL-SIN-LHR-MEL-AKL (not upgradeable if travel commenced in Australia). I was a no-show for the final MEL-AKL sector (given that I live in MEL - I also had a separate flight booking for MEL-AKL to join the flights at the start). I received a call from the airline just before the MEL-AKL flight was due to depart and I told them I was not coming. I booked the fare knowing that it was not refundable though. So I think it'll all depend on your booking class.

When making the booking, I had a few options in the MEL-AKL connecting flight and selected the one which was the latest. Then when I was checking in for the LHR flight, I asked the agent to check my luggage through to MEL only as I was going to get out of the airport with such a long connection time...
