So...interestingly enough, I was looking to change a MEL-SYD flight on Thursday 9 March, to a Wednesday evening flight on 8 March - and there is not one QF seat available - at all, anywhere. Only Jetstar.

I didn't believe the agent on the phone, so I thought I would call back later and try someone else, but in the meantime, I looked on the website, and also, nothing - only Jetstar!

This is a little strange right?

Probably got something to do with this Wednesday 8 March refuellers' strike

Yeah it will be the fuel. Short flights will carry fuel into MEL to get to the next destination.

They're talking about diverting longer flights for fuel stops.

Thus kind of situation occurs fairly often in NZ on the main routes between akl, wlg, chc. No availability for a day or more due to insufficient capacity for demand.

MEL-SYD availability for tomorrow has opened back up. As mentioned above, I assume it was temporarily zeroed whilst they worked on plans for tomorrow's refuellers strike but according to the media release that went out earlier it appears they have contingencies in place now (including flying in an A380 carrying lots of fuel, and using it to fill up other aircraft) and aren't expecting any serious issues.

I'm sure people here will realise and blame Qantas, that these contractors are on qantas too. They blame all their other contractors Qantas use, so why not have another Qantas bash... Or is this different this time?!

You've created a strawman argument to present a moot question regarding blame that nobody has apportioned. That's quite an effort.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

There are still Rex seats for $195 tomorrow morning but otherwise basically everything else is $300 and above.

It’s the Friday before a long weekend. Of course the seats are full at baseline.

Note VLINE also striking today 5am - 430pm messing the travel plans to regional Vic.

Doesn’t really get the travelling public on your side when striking on a peak travel day.

There were two weeks of crazy flight fares recently due to the Taylor Swift phenomenon. Was looking at $1600 round trip in Y for triangle route flying the week of 19th Feb.
