No priority seating for Qantas Platinum on Emirates Flights code shared with Qantas

I have never had an issue selecting preferred seating on EK long haul or short haul. TA books as QF flights (if available) or EK on non-code share with QF FF number. Itinerary from TA has QF and EK booking ref. Using EK booking ref access booking on EK app and you can select seats and meal preferences. Note that if your itinerary includes actual QF metal flights, you need to access the QF booking through the app and on seat selection, skip through the EK metal flights and select for the QF metal flights...

As someone who’s just experienced another partnership in action, it seems like this is a bit of a communications mess from QF and EK.

Recently I booked and travelled LAX-LHR- MUC with AA that included a codeshare flight with AA’s partner, BA, between LHR-MUC.

Logging into my booking on the AA website and even selecting seats, there are clear messages that I’d have to access my booking via BA’s website to select seats on that codeshare flight.

They even displayed the PNR for BA as this was different to AA. And provided a link.

Couldn’t have been more clearer.

QF do this with BA too. Perhaps it's something to do with integrating with EK systems? Though you'd think given the seemingly close nature of the relationship, they'd have gotten any issues resolved by this point.

I think I'm glad I didn't win.

When making bookings direct with EK my QF status always appeared as soon as I entered my FF number, so the systems do talk to some extent. Otherwise my experience has been similar to others, use the EK website to select seats. I have had seats arbitrarily changed at boarding, but that was in the good old days when the scanner played the delightful op-up buzzer and I got handed my F boarding pass.

Just confirming this works well for a single QF booking on both EK metal and QF metal. For the QF8xx_ flights, I rang QF for the EK booking reference, and used it with the EK app. Only the exit row seats showed a payment fee, all other seats in whY (including "preferred" up front) were $0. Both pax QF SG.

Original seat allocation on 2 x EK A380s was in row 86, changed to 56 and 46, both close to the front of the respective cabins in the "preferred" section.

Both booking reference not the same?
QF is hosted by Amadeus and EK self hosted so a duplicate booking sits in the operating carrier's system including a reference to the marketing carrier's record locator. But a separate record locator nevertheless. Many codeshare bookings are managed this way.

Have read where the QF reference is searchable on the EK website (and vice versa) - they have done some backend work to make both locators available to search on.
